Summary
This position is part of the Southwestern Power Administration, Maintenance Organization. The incumbent is a High Voltage Electrician Journeyman.
**This is not a remote position. The selectee will be required to be physically present at one of the duty location(s) identified.**

- Suitable for Federal employment, as determined by a background investigation.
- May be required to successfully complete a probationary period.
- Possess a valid state driver's license at the time of employment.
- Must be able to obtain and maintain a Class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL) to operate vehicles of more than 10,000 pounds GVWR and vehicles of larger GVWR rating as required by specific job location. The hiring organization will work with you on obtaining your CDL.
- This position requires an initial drug test prior to appointment and random drug or drug and alcohol testing thereafter. Failure to test or a positive result on random drug or drug and alcohol tests conducted after appointment may result in removal from Federal employment.
- If you are tentatively selected for this position, you will be required to have a physical examination that will determine whether you are qualified to perform the duties of the position. An offer of employment will depend upon your successfully passing the physical examination.
- This position requires completion of an annual medical examination at Federal expense.
- This position requires the incumbent to live within one (1) hour response time due to possible call-outs in emergency situations at all hours of the day and any day.

The screen-out element for this position is below. Failure to meet this screen out element will result in an ineligible rating:
- Ability to do the work of a journeyman electrician in high voltage power systems (69KV and higher) to include the ability to install, construct, commission, maintain, and repair equipment in high voltage switchyards, substations, communication facilities and power operations centers independently without more than normal supervision.

You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
Working Conditions:
The work environment involves high risks with exposure to potentially dangerous situations or unusual environmental stress, such as working with high-voltage electrical equipment (.001 volts to 161,000 volts as general criteria), extreme outdoor weather conditions, and emergency situations at all hours of the day and any day, and foreign electrical systems. The employee must apply a wide range of safety and other precautions.
Physical Effort:
The work requires physical exertion, such as long periods of standing; walking over rough, uneven, or rocky surfaces; recurrent bending, crouching, stooping, stretching, reaching, or similar activities; and recurrent lifting of moderately heavy items, such as test instruments, compression tools, and various winch lines. The work may require specific, but common, physical characteristics and abilities such as above-average agility and dexterity.

There are no specific education requirements or substitution of education for experience for this position.
