Histology Associate

Job Description

Join our Clinical Lab's Histology group and play a part in providing clarity to patients with uncertain or unknown cancers, and information around individualized breast cancer care. You will get to work on different parts of Histology - staining, microtome sectioning, tissue scraping, and will be trained on our proprietary process of laser microdissection.

Think this role is for you?

• This person will process formalin-fixed paraffin-embedded tumor samples by sectioning for microscopic examination using a microtome, as well as operating an automated slide stainer.
• Specimen labeling, verification of sample identifiers, and information against source documents.
• Perform daily inventory or maintenance activities, and troubleshoot general problems including missing or conflicting identifiers.
• Will operate and use of automated slide stainer as well as Laboratory Information System software for various lab workflows.

Key Outcomes:

• Quality of patient testing and maintaining turn-around times.
• Re-embedding of tissue blocks as needed.
• Laser Capture Microdissection of tissue on slides, under supervision of a pathologist.
• Like in any CLIA-certified, CAP-accredited lab, this person will have clerical and administrative functions, including documentation to maintain compliance with state, CLIA and CAP requirements.

• This person works well in a cross-functional team environment, has meticulous attention to detail, strong organization, data entry, and communication skills.
• A self-starter when it comes to resolving discrepancies and proactively improves operational efficiencies.

Additional qualifications:

• High School Diploma or equivalent and at least 3 years of laboratory experience (industry preferred)
• Must have experience in histological techniques
• Experience operating LIS for various lab workflows
• HT or HTL (ASCP) highly preferred, but not required.
