We are looking for a Histology Manager with extensive experience in research specimens to join the team in a full-time capacity in our Long Island City, NY location. Reporting to the Director of Laboratory Operations, the Histology Manager will apply a working knowledge of Histotechnician-related duties and management experience to lead the team. The ideal candidate enjoys solving complex problems, has excellent communication skills, team building experience, and thrives in a fast-paced setting that is constantly evolving. They should be a self-starter with demonstrated ability to think strategically and analytically about business and technical challenges. Who you are

  • You are certified as a Histotechnician (HT) or Histotechnologist (HTL)
  • You possess experience in a preclinical research setting
  • You are experienced in technical work with at least two years of professional experience in a histology laboratory

Main Duties

  • Manage attendance, quality, and standards of the Histology Lab by developing and implementing effective management strategies
  • Monitor the workflow and adjusts lab policies and procedures as needed to ensure optimal performance
  • Propose any staffing needs and participate in the recruitment process, ensuring the laboratory runs efficiently and effectively
  • oversee instruments/equipment and supplies needed to ensure the lab runs smoothly
  • Troubleshoot technical, equipment, and computer-related issues
  • Serves as the primary point of contact with clients to provide information and take requests for services
  • Establishes laboratory procedures, creates and manages laboratory-related documentation, and organizes laboratory activities, ensuring compliance with industry standards and regulations
  • Maintain an in-depth knowledge of regulatory requirements specific to the laboratory and ensures all users are in compliance with those standards
  • Update and maintain the Lab Safety Plan/Manual, identifying and addressing potential safety hazards to maintain a safe working environment
  • Anticipate potential problems and help staff to resolve them as they occur, minimizing downtime and ensuring that the laboratory stays on schedule
  • Ensures laboratory users have received the appropriate training on correctly using laboratory equipment
  • Oversee the day-to-day operations of the histology laboratory, including receiving, grossing, processing, embedding, sectioning, staining, and scanning
  • Produce, monitor, and maintain productivity, quality, and TAT metrics
  • Troubleshoot technical, equipment, and software
  • Manage the PTO schedule and oversee time management
  • Write and update SOP Annually

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in biological sciences or a related subject plus at least two years of technical experience in a histology laboratory
  • Certification as a Histotechnician (HT) or Histotechnologist (HTL) is required
  • Two years of supervisory experience required, demonstrating a high level of technical knowledge and expertise
  • Experience in preclinical research setting preferred, indicating familiarity with relevant laboratory techniques and process
  • Flexible work schedule and the ability to work a late / weekend shift preferred
  • Must be detail-oriented, careful, and have high integrity and discipline
  • Excellent communication skills and work well in a team environment
