Job Description:

Description: The HIV Tester is responsible for conducting test counseling interviews. This job is responsible for retrieving and recording accurate legible data from participants. This job will also be responsible for the timeliness and efficient flow of data from collection to data entry.

Typical Duties:

  1. Conducts clinic activities related to HIV services with regard to age and developmental stage.
  2. Provides patient care in a way that minimizes to risk of transfer of infection, accidental contamination, and protects the patient from injury or harm; ensuring work area is clean and orderly.
  3. Performs HIV testing to target populations.
  4. Provides pre and post-test HIV education and elicitation interviews.
  5. Provides testing to identified community populations.
  6. Coordinates tasks in order to provide services to JPS Health Centers.
  7. Participates in selected community health fairs.
  8. Consults with, evaluates degree of educational need, and educates health care workers involved in HIV activities.
  9. Coordinates activities with the Ryan White grant manager, physicians, and staff members.
  10. Provides accurate data on a monthly basis to grant manager and public health monitors.
  11. Works at various diverse health fairs and community based organizations performing HIV testing as needed.
  12. Performs other related job duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

    Required Education and Experience:
  • High School Diploma, GED or equivalent.
  • 2 plus years of clinical or customer service experience.
  • Preferred Education and Experience:
  • HIV Counseling training/education (will provide after hire).
  • 1 plus year of experience in phlebotomy practice.
  • Required Licensure/Certification/Specialized Training:
  • Current JPS recognized CPR certification and must be maintained throughout employment.
  • Unit Specific Competency Based Orientation program within the first 90 days of employment.
  • Preferred Licensure/Certification/Specialized Training:
  • Phlebotomy Certification.
