A Brief Overview

Provide strategic leadership and management of administrative and operational functions of the Histocompatibility and Immunogenetics (HLA) Laboratory, both Serology and Molecular laboratories. Responsible to assess, plan, develop, organize, implement, direct and evaluate all administrative and strategic needs of the HLA laboratory with respect to operations, finance (including budgeting and fiscal compliance), facilities, space, personnel, security, records, compliance with Stanford Blood Center, hospital, state, and federal regulatory requirements, certification and licensing, information systems, marketing, and major projects. Assure effective integration with departmental and Blood Center policies and administration. Is a key participant in the SBC strategic planning process and Strategic Leadership Team. Oversee all personnel and has administrative authority over, and responsibility for, entire laboratory. Assure compliance of the entire laboratory with respect to accreditation, certification and licensing. Report directly to the Administrative Director of Operations for Stanford Blood Center while supporting HLA medical directors.

What you will do
  • Oversee and/or manage daily operations and has overall administrative responsibilities for the HLA laboratory (50+ FTEs); coordinate necessary administrative and supervisory staff to meet the requirements of the transplant services and ensure integrated, effective, and timely administrative compliance with requirements and laboratory accreditation on the part of all personnel in the division. Interview and approve hiring of all personnel. Responsible for the evaluation and development of all laboratory personnel.
  • Develop and perform short and long-range policy, personnel, fiscal, IT, and space planning. Provide effective space management; plan, initiate and implement changes to existing facilities and capital equipment.
  • Develop, approve, and oversee operational policy. Gather data, analyze results, and make recommendations on lab operations (e.g., test turnaround times, pricing, processes, information management, etc.). Effectively delegate and hold all staff, including faculty, accountable for timely compliance with administrative requirements.
  • Establish annual budget in collaboration SBC Finance, provide ongoing analysis of budget vs actual. Authorize expenditures of approved funds. Recommend reallocation of funds based on spending trends and projections and program requirements. Responsible for all variance reports for budget. Oversee all billing for the laboratory; coordinating with Blood Center Finance.
  • Serve as Stanford Blood Center HLA representative in meetings on matters of organizational concern. Represent the organization at local, state, national, and international meetings.
  • Comply with governmental regulations and Stanford Health Care and Blood Center policies regarding health and safety. Observe and support good health and safety practices.
  • Strictly observe privacy and security related policies, procedures and practices to preserve the integrity and confidentiality of medical and other sensitive information pertaining to donors, patients, research subjects, and employees. Act as a responsible information steward and treats information as sensitive and confidential in accordance with federal and state laws and with professional ethics, accreditation standards and legal requirements. Do not disclose protected health information inappropriately.
  • May be required to enter areas where other individuals work with human blood; potential may exist for unanticipated exposure to bloodborne pathogens by splash or spill.

Education Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree in Business, Health Care Administration, or related field Required

Experience Qualifications
  • 5+ years to 7 years directly related experience Required
  • 10+ years to 15 years directly related experience Preferred

Base Pay Scale: Generally starting at $76.84 - $101.82 per hour

The salary of the finalist selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to, internal equity, experience, education, specialty and training. This pay scale is not a promise of a particular wage.
