Summary
The HR Business Partner (HRBP) position is responsible for aligning business objectives with employees and management in SMS group Service Centers. The HRBP position formulates partnerships across the HR function to deliver value-added service to management and employees that reflects the business objectives of the organization. The HRBP maintains an effective level of business literacy about the business unit's financial position, its midrange plans, its culture and its competition.
This position is located in the Pittsburgh, PA office.

What You'll Do
- Works collaboratively with local HR, local management, and corporate subject matter experts in Employee Relations, Compliance, Benefits, Talent Acquisition, Learning & Development, Payroll, and other disciplines to create a workplace culture of growth and employee satisfaction
- Conducts weekly meetings with respective Service Centers
- Consults line management, providing HR guidance when appropriate
- Analyzes trends and metrics in partnership with the HR group to develop proactive solutions, programs and policies
- Along with Corporate HR, manages and resolves complex employee relations issues. Conducts effective, thorough and objective investigations
- Maintains in-depth knowledge of legal requirements related to day-to-day management of employees, reducing legal risks and ensuring regulatory compliance. Partners with the legal department as needed/required
- Provides day-to-day performance management guidance to line management (e.g., coaching, counseling, career development, disciplinary actions)
- Works closely with management and employees to improve work relationships, build morale, and increase productivity and retention
- Provides HR policy guidance and interpretation
- Works with Corporate HR to develop terms for new hires, promotions and transfers at the Service Centers
- Provides guidance and input on Service Center acquisitions and restructures regarding workforce planning and succession planning
- Identifies training needs in partnership with local managers, local HR, and the Learning & Development Department for Service Centers and individual executive coaching needs for management at the Service Centers
- Participates in evaluation and monitoring of training programs of the Learning & Development group to ensure success
- Follows up to ensure training objectives are met
- Maintain knowledge of labor/union issues and best practices in order to promote positive labor relations
- This position has no direct supervisory responsibilities but does have functional responsibility for HR Generalist at Service Centers
What You'll Need
- Bachelor's degree in HR or a related field is required- a combination of related training and/or experience may be considered in lieu of a Bachelor's Degree
- Certification in Human Resources (SHRM or PHR) is highly preferred
- Minimum of 5 years of HR experience
- Working knowledge within all human resource disciplines
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Excellent interpersonal skills
- Excellent organizational skills
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- Ability to acquire a thorough understanding of the organization's hierarchy, jobs, qualifications and strategic plans
- Ability to travel to SMS Service Centers around the US (up to 25%)
