About The Role
The HR Compliance Manager is responsible for overseeing and managing the labor, employment and compliance functions, including unemployment, leave of absence, and administrative reporting functions, for a multistate PEO. This role includes leading a team of employees, ensuring PEO clients' compliance with multi-state rules, providing expert advice on compliance and labor/employment law matters, and fostering a customer-service-focused approach with direct interaction with PEO client management and client worksite employees.
Responsibilities
Team Management
- Lead and manage a team of employees, providing guidance, support, and fostering a collaborative and high-performance work environment.
- Conduct regular performance reviews and implement development plans for team members.
Compliance Oversight
- Ensure the PEO clients comply with multistate rules and regulations related to unemployment, leave of absence, ADA requests, employment verifications, social security verification, EEO-1/Affirmative Action reporting, and other administrative reporting.
- Stay abreast of changes in labor and employment laws across different states and update internal processes accordingly.
Client Service Collaboration
- Collaborate with the client service team to provide expert advice and counseling on compliance matters, offering solutions to client challenges.
- Act as a resource for the client service team, addressing compliance-related inquiries and concerns.
Customer-Service Focus
- Maintain a strong customer-service focus, directly interacting with PEO clients to understand their unique needs and challenges and address any concerns promptly.
Legal Expertise
- Utilize legal expertise to interpret and apply multistate compliance regulations effectively.
- Provide business minded legally compliant guidance on compliance matters to both internal teams and PEO clients.
Reporting and Documentation
- Oversee the accurate and timely preparation of reports related to unemployment, leave of absence, and other compliance metrics.
- Keep comprehensive documentation to ensure compliance with audit requirements.
Training and Development
- Develop and conduct training sessions on compliance best practices and updates in labor and employment laws.
- Keep team members informed about changes in regulations and industry standards.
Problem Resolution
- Proactively identify and address compliance issues, working closely with the client service team to resolve challenges and mitigate risks.
- Investigate and resolve escalated compliance-related matters in a timely and effective manner.
This Role is a Good Fit if You
- Have a Juris Doctor degree, required
- Possess 7+ years of experience in labor and employment law
- Possess 10+ years of experience in human resources, with 5 years in a management or supervisory role
- Are proficient in HRIS (Human Resources Information Systems), UKG Ready preferred
- Are proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, intermediate Excel preferred
