The HSE Specialist contributes to improving health, safety and environment (HSE) performance, helping the organization to deliver a high-performing culture through clear accountability and a skilled organization in the Electrification Distribution Solutions (ELDS) based in Pinetops, NC.

This position reports to

HSE Manager

Your responsibilities

• Follow and actively participate in all HSE programs and procedures
• Lead Contractors' Management and Management of change processes for the Factory of Tomor-row project
• Improve HSE ABB Way implementation on high-risk activities such as confined spaces, working at heights, electrical safety, hot-works and others
• Participate in the selection of new vendors based on safety records and concerns from present and past vendor history
• Identify and lead continuous improvement for risk reduction projects
• Execute and/or maintain up to date the ABRA's (activity-based risk assessments) and recommend corrective actions for contractors and designated areas
• Follow up on corrective actions from ABRA's evaluations
• Follow up on-site regulatory inspection programs, such as forklifts, eyewash stations, emergency lights, fire extinguishers and cranes
• Maintain HSE regulatory documents up to date and Factory of tomorrow
• Assist on-site HSE training matrix for employees, new hires visitors and contractors
• Boost Emergency Response Requirements
• Assist HSE with site documentation and programs
• Maintain Safety Data Sheets (SDS) up to date
• Follow up with Health, Safety Environmental (HSE) regulatory agencies to ensure compliance
• Complete safety walks and hazard hunts with contractors and project managers
• Track leading and lagging indicators
• Support site on SOT reporting program
• Support site with HSE incident investigation program
• Support site efforts on waste minimization program

Your background

• Bachelor's degree in occupational health & safety, engineering preferred with minimum 0-2 years experience
• Microsoft office and computer skills
• HSE regulatory and standards Experience
• Good leadership and communication skills
• Ability to provide and follow instructions accordingly
• Candidates must already have a work authorization that would permit them to work for ABB in the US
