Job Title:

HSE Specialist

Responsibilities:

• Develops and maintains the annual Health and Safety Management System and the Environmental Management System and associated documents.
• Develops presentations on the status of all programming to the Plant Manager and Senior Staff on a regular basis and others as directed.
• Maintains and reports monthly statistics pertaining to the plants safety record and the Corporate Safety Award Program.
• Enters and maintains appropriate reports and records in the Health and Safety Management System.
• The HSE Specialist directs the activities of the Safety Team and First Aid Team; facilitates the Ergonomics Task Force activities, Coordinators and Supervisors in conducting accident investigations.
• Establishes and maintains the plant Emergency Evacuation Program and procedures.
• Prepares the plant evacuation plan and trains employees in the procedures for fire, severe weather or other potential plant emergencies.
• Provides training to all employees in Fire, Emergency Evac and other Safety related requirements.
• Establishes and maintains all employee medical files while maintaining confidentiality of employee personal medical information.
• Establishes and maintains relationships with company selected physicians; schedules physical examinations and coordinates medical care for work-related illnesses or injuries.
• Administers the plant work hardening program for new hire employees, and employees returning from medical leave absences as needed.
• Manages the plant Worker’s Compensation Program.
• The HSE Specialist analyses the health, safety, and environment trends and makes recommendations for improvement and cost savings.

Qualifications:

Graduate of an accredited school of nursing and license to practice nursing in the State of Michigan; or Associates Degree or higher in Safety, Industrial Hygiene; or related health professions specialty, i.e. Rehabilitation.

Experience:

Two (2) to five (5) years in Occupational Health & Environmental, preferably with Industrial Safety experience, or Industrial Safety coupled with Industrial Health Care experience.
