We are looking for a talented HSEM Leader to join our team specializing in Health and Safety for our Cummins Filtration in Madison WI. This role is primary on-site with slight flexibility.

In this role, you will make an impact in the following ways:

  • Actively promotes health, safety and environmental awareness and applies technical knowledge in the design, implementation and management of health, safety and environmental engineering controls within the site(s). Provides support cross-functionally to ensure compliance with Cummins internal requirements, applicable health, safety and environmental regulations and industry standards.
  • Actively demonstrates safety awareness and promotes a positive health, safety and environmental culture. Ensures employees are consulted and given the opportunity to contribute to the development and implementation of programs, policies and procedures.
  • Works cross-functionally, providing technical expertise, to improve hazard prevention and rick control measures, non-conformities, corrective and preventive actions, driving continual improvement within the site(s).
  • Contributes to daily health, safety and environmental operations within the site(s) providing support to solve technical issues. Leads hazard identification, environmental aspect identification and risk assessment programs to identify risk improvement opportunities and gaps in health, safety and environmental compliance obligations. Meets targets and objectives for the design, implementation and maintenance of complex hazard prevention and control systems to reduce or eliminate potential risk.
  • Develops and leads training, skills development and internal communications related to hazard prevention and control for employees within the site(s). Develops and maintains technical content ensuring it is up to date, controlled and available while adhering to data privacy regulations.
  • Evaluates site health, safety and environmental data, legal compliance findings, and internal and external audit results to develop improvement plan using a risk-based, data driven approach.
  • Contributes to site(s) Health, Safety, Environmental Management Systems review annually in conformance with Cummins internal requirements. Participates in site audit preparation and formal audit processes.
  • Coaches cross-functional teams based on stakeholder feedback, and observations. Actively seeks opportunities for self-development through professional health, safety and environmental organizations, as a champion of emerging trends.

  • Health, Safety and Environment Incident Investigation and Root Cause Analysis - Examines HSE incidents by completing quality, evidence-based investigations with accurate root cause analysis, resulting in effective corrective actions, accurate reporting and avoiding repeated incidents.
  • Implementation of Risk Controls - Selects and implements risk control methods by utilizing the hierarchy of controls to implement sustainable control measures in order to protect people by reducing overall risks to as low as reasonably practicable.
  • Health, Safety and Environment Management Systems - Interprets and applies international standards through practical application within the operating environment to achieve and maintain an effective management system and external certification.
  • Management of Health, Safety and Environmental Regulatory Compliance - Identifies, interprets and manages legal and other requirements by implementing controls, monitoring and reporting on operational performance to ensure compliance with health, safety and environmental related regulations and standards.
  • Optimizes work processes - Knowing the most effective and efficient processes to get things done, with a focus on continuous improvement.
  • Measurement and Evaluation of Health, Safety and Environment Performance - Collects and analyzes data by creating key performance indicators to evaluate performance trends, deliver improvement goals and objectives, inform strategy and protect employees and the environment.

Education, Licenses, Certifications

College, university, or equivalent degree required. Health, Safety and/or Environmental degree preferred. Progress toward Certified Safety Professional (CSP), NEBOSH or similar certification preferred.

Experience

Intermediate level of relevant work experience required, including management of health, safety and environmental industrial safety Standards and implementation of risk controls. 1-3 years of experience required.

This role will report to the Stoughton Site Leader and will be dotted line to corporate HSE Leader(s). In addition to general HSEM activities, this role will provide support in the following areas (not all inclusive):

  • Contractor Management (approval, permitting, monitoring etc)
  • Lead Key HSEM Initiatives/System including GSA (Go See Act) Action Log, Management of Change (MOC) process, and Business Continuity Plan (BCP) and SDS /Chemical Approvals
  • Support site level strategy to achieve environmental energy, waste, and water targets
  • Technical support for LOTO activities
  • Procurement & Maintenance of HSEM supplies (LOTO, First Aid Kits, Eye Wash etc)
  • Support HSEM special initiatives as required by company or site leader

Education and/or experience in the area of chemical and water treatment handling are preferred but not required.

Base salary rate commensurate with experience.
