Your Opportunity
Stantec is seeking an individual to support and coordinate the implementation of Stantec's Health, Safety, Security, and Environment (HSSE) program within the West, USA Region and will be based out of one of our larger offices in the region. Under the direction of the geographic Health, Safety, Security and Environment Manager, the regional Health, Safety, Security & Environment Advisor will coordinate the day-to-day operations of the HSSE program within the region.
Your Key Responsibilities
- Support operations and office staff to be compliant with Stantec's HSSE systems including the HSSE program manual and safe work practices, as well as local legislation.
- Assist with project pre-job planning and hazard assessments for field activities.
- Conduct field assessments planned job observations and worksite inspections with leadership (which may require overnight travel) in support of our global design business.
- Promote HSSE within the region with a goal of continuous improvement of HSSE culture.
- Work with the HSSE Manager to track and manage incidents and leading indicators and develop lessons learned.
- Support the subcontractor management program, coordinating, and conducting contractor prequalification assessments as required.
- Assist with regional ISO 14001 (International Standards Organization) and Occupational Safety and Health Management System ISO 45001 audits.
Your Capabilities and Credentials
- Professional safety certification (or in process of obtaining) will be considered an asset. Preferred certifications include: ASP, GSP, OHST, CHST, CSP or CIH.
- Knowledge of US Occupational Health and Safety legislation.
- Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, along with excellent interpersonal and organizational abilities, coupled with an ability to work in a team atmosphere.
- Strong leadership skills and the capability to assess priorities and work independently.
- Computer proficiency with the Microsoft Office suite of software.
- A valid driver's license and satisfactory driving record is required.
- Experience in construction, oil and gas, ergonomics, or work zone (traffic) safety is preferred.
Education and Experience
A degree in Occupational Health and Safety or a related field is preferred.
Minimum of 3 years of relevant field work experience in an HSSE role; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Requires regular travel within the West region. Typically, 1 to 2-week durations providing project support at sites or office visits.
