HTS Intern - Software Developer
Job Description
As a Hearst Technology Intern, you will transition what you learned in the college classroom or technical school to working in the real world. You will gain knowledge and insights related to how Hearst business units function and you will be expected to contribute to the overall success of the business. You will work with smart colleagues and gain exposure to core technology platforms, IT systems, network infrastructure, software development, support, maintenance, and operation. You will work on real-world projects and initiatives in collaboration with the teams across Hearst businesses. This is your chance to bring your ideas and solutions to life and grow your skillset.

What you'll learn:
- Overview of the technology function responsibilities and supporting efforts of the various other departments
- What is required, technically and operationally, to perform the many tasks required to support the business in a diverse and dynamic corporate world as an Engineer
- Exposure to technology leadership via virtual lunch and learns and panel discussions
- Building and nurturing strong relationships with your colleagues across the business
- A thorough understanding of departmental roles, as well as support all other departments with equal focus and attention to detail
- Works closely with a team of engineers to build new features that our customers will love, adopt, and use while keeping our platform stable and scalable.
- Perform software development and integration within an agile development process
- Support software life-cycle to include design, developing, and testing
- Design, build, and maintain efficient, reusable, and reliable code/databases with guidance from senior developers
- Participate in agile/scrum ceremonies.
- Actively pursuing a Bachelor's or Master's degree in computer science, engineering or a related technical field
- Must have at least one additional quarter/semester of school remaining following the completion of the internship
- One year of programming experience in an object-oriented language like Java, Python, C#
- Thriving in a fast-paced, dynamic working environment
- Problem solver and fast learner with good analysis skills
- A team player and always willing to positively impact the team.
- Good verbal and written communication skills.
In accordance with applicable law, Hearst is required to include a reasonable estimate of the compensation for this role if hired in New York City. The reasonable estimate, if hired in New York City, is $20/Hour. Please note this information is specific to those hired in New York City. If this role is open to candidates outside of New York City, the salary range would be aligned to that specific location. A final decision on the successful candidate's starting salary will be based on a number of permissible, non-discriminatory factors, including but not limited to skills and experience, training, certifications, and education.
