Human Factors Professional I - Digital Models of Cognition Research
Join a diverse group of scientists and engineers conducting leading edge research and development in the area of Digital Models of Cognition within the Air Force Research Laboratory. In support of USAF research objectives, you will test technologies aimed at enhancing both human and system effectiveness, and safety as it relates to human sensory systems. In this position, you will conduct measurements that generate in-depth knowledge of how the human interacts with his/her work environment, which will be used by a team of scientists and engineers to develop digital models of cognition. The successful candidate will perform laboratory and/or real-world studies to characterize the strengths and limitations of the devices designed to keep warfighters safe. A diverse set of laboratory support activities may focus on research, engineering, and/or training.

On-Site Work Environment: This position requires regular in-person engagement by working on-site five days each normally scheduled week in the primary work location. Travel aโnd local commute between Ball campuses and other possible non-Ball locations may be required.
Working Conditions:
A security clearance or access with Polygraph is not required to be eligible for this position. However, the applicant must be willing and eligible for submission, depending on program requirements, after an offer is accepted and must be able to maintain the applicable clearance/access.
Relocation for this position is available.

What You'll Do:
- Lead standard measurements in AFRL laboratories involving hearing protection and communication devices.
- Develop and manage experimental test plans, including time and budget estimates.
- Manage human subject and facility schedules.
- Conduct measurements with human subjects, including hearing screenings.
- Analyze data and interpret experimental results.
- Author draft technical reports describing research and/or measurement methods and results.
- Schedule and perform facility upkeep including software updates, microphone calibration, etc.
- Interface directly with government customer and their external customers.
- Serve as the main point of contact for the Institutional Review Board in order to conduct human subjects research.
- Maintain a regular and predictable work schedule.
- Establish and maintain effective working relationships within the department, the Strategic Business Units, Strategic Capabilities Units and the Company. Interact appropriately with others in order to maintain a positive and productive work environment.
- Perform other duties as necessary.
What You'll Need:
- BS/BA in or a related field plus 2 or more years related experience.
- Each higher-level degree, i.e., Master's Degree or Ph.D., may substitute for two years of experience. Related technical experience may be considered in lieu of education. Degree must be from a university, college, or school which is accredited by an agency recognized by the US Secretary of Education, US Department of Education.
- BS/BA in Psychology, Experimental Psychology, Applied Behavioral Science, Human Factors or related preferred.
- Experience conducting measurements with human subjects in high noise environments requiring specialized hearing protection equipment.
- Good communication and writing skills.
- Ability to interface well with government customers.
- Solid organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to problem-solve.
- Ability to be hands-on and troubleshoot equipment issues.
- Knowledgeable in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Power Point).
- Familiarity with running Matlab scripts and handling minor troubleshooting.
- Familiarity with R or Python for use in statistical analysis.

- HIRING SALARY RANGE: $63,000 - $84,000 (Salary to be determined by the education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities of the applicant, internal equity, and alignment with market data.)
