Medica is a non-profit health insurance company headquartered in Minnetonka with offices in Madison, Duluth, St. Cloud, Fargo, and Omaha. Medica is engaged in our communities through the charitable grant-making work of the Medica Foundation and active employee giving and volunteer programs.

Medica will host a hybrid, 12-week, paid Internship Program. Interns will have the opportunity to network within Medica and with other Interns through weekly Lunch-and-Learns and opportunities to hear from Executives. We strive to offer a well-rounded education of the inner workings of a health plan. Each internship offers a meaningful experience and impactful projects you'll be able to discuss with future employers. At Medica, we look forward to our Summer Internship Program each year.

Department Introduction:

Medica is seeking a Human Resources (HR) Intern who will support talent acquisition and hiring processes, new hire and employee experience and other programs and processes within the HR department. Strong customer service and administration task management skills are key as the position is responsible for end to end administrative support of Media's recruitment and talent selection processes. Working closely with HR colleagues on a daily basis, this internship will have unique exposure to creating a positive brand experience for candidates and future employees, and have direct involvement with departmental projects and programs. This is a great opportunity to experience various aspects of Human Resources within a supportive and dynamic team!

Work Expectations:

  • Managing talent acquisition coordination tasks such as requisition creation, interview scheduling, offer letter creation, background check/I-9 processing, and start date preparations.
  • Supporting high volume recruitment by coordinating onboarding logistics with IT, Operations trainers, and other key stakeholders to ensure a successful onboarding of large new hire classes.
  • Reviewing current processes and communications within HR and Talent Acquisition, identify potential gaps, and propose changes to support positive employee and candidate experiences.
  • Managing departmental programs and projects as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • Current Junior or Senior pursuing a degree in Business or related field; Human Resource Majors would be beneficial but not required
  • Excellent verbal and interpersonal communication skills who is organized and enjoys working independently and as part of a team
  • You should be self-motivated, naturally curious and enjoy the details of business processes and process improvement
  • Demonstrate initiative, a willingness to learn and effective problem-solving skills
  • Ability to multi-task in a fast paced environment
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office and willing and able to learn new computer applications - common tools we use are Excel, Visio, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook, and Microsoft Teams

This position is a Hub role, which requires an employee to occasionally come onsite to the Minnetonka office for applicable heads-up work. Frequency is determined by business need as decided by leadership.
