Large-Scale Optical manufactures high-performance glazing products for the custom picture framing, museum, and technical glass markets. We are a leader in anti-reflective coatings, as well as conservation-grade protection and specialty glazing products. We set the standard in glazing that enhances, protects, and beautifies. Position Summary

Reporting to the Apogee Enterprise, Inc. CHRO and dotted line to the segment President, the Human Resources Leader will be responsible for providing strategy, leadership, and functional guidance for all human resource activities including but not limited to, leadership development and succession, performance management, employee/labor relations, organizational effectiveness, compensation and benefits, recruiting and retention, training and development, human resources policy, and management and diversity efforts. As a member of the LSO leadership team, this individual will partner with his/her peers in providing counsel, guidance, and support for their various business plans and needs.

This role will provide leadership to the LSO segment with 2 site level direct reports supporting the Faribault and McCook facilities. The role partners with the appropriate Apogee HR Centers of Excellence (COE) such as Compensation, Benefits, Employee Development and Staffing to develop and execute programs that ensure the effective acquisition, development and leadership of talent in the business, consistent with the core values and processes of the overall Apogee enterprise.

Responsibilities

HR Strategy Development. In support of the LSO leadership team, develop and execute HR strategies in support of business strategic plan (STRAP) and annual operating plan (AOP) in the areas of talent acquisition, performance management, learning & development, compensation, employee engagement and organizational development. Work with client groups to:

  • Drive a culture of growth, meeting commitments, and positive employee relations.
  • Improve the efficiency and effectiveness of the organization at all levels (e.g., evaluation of cost, clarifying roles and responsibilities, organization design, etc.).
  • Work with the client leadership team to continually monitor performance of the organization and make adjustments to improve the overall efficiency and effectiveness of the team.
  • Work with the business leadership team to implement consistent and meaningful leadership management operating system (MOS) and communication processes that supports the culture, business objectives and mission of the business.
  • Work with leadership on strategies to increase employee engagement and commitment aligned to business objectives.

Talent Assessment and Development. Conduct organizational talent assessments; continually drive improvements in talent development and acquisition at all levels.

  • Lead the Management Resource Review (MRR) process for the LSO segment and participate in the annual cross-business unit MRR review to facilitate the sharing and development of leadership talent.
  • Coordinate with the Apogee Talent Development COE to manage/create appropriate development programs/practices (mentoring, leadership development programs, talent assessment, etc.)
  • Work to develop effective talent acquisition processes at all levels.
  • Ensure the appropriate staffing of manufacturing operations across the business.

HR Functional Excellence. Work with the HR Centers of Excellence (COE); and Apogee HR leadership team to ensure the aligned and effective delivery of HR support/services to the segment, business units and functions, striving for greater standardization of HR policies and practices.

  • Provide sound advice and counsel to management on all employee relations matters.
  • Ensure flawless execution of staffing processes for all levels within the business and develop staffing strategies to ensure a robust pipeline of quality candidates.
  • Effectively manage payroll activities for the business.
  • Program manage key HR initiatives within the business as assigned (e.g., compensation program development, productivity programs, key staffing initiatives, process standardization, etc.).
  • Staff and develop a strong HR business partner and administrative team for the business. Support their growth and development.
  • Manage COC (Code of Conduct) compliance, including the timely investigation of all complaints.
  • Ensure compliance with federal and state laws pertaining to all human resource matters, including affirmative action and EEO requirements, including support of the internal Apogee HR audit process.
  • Partner with Safety on Workers comp case medical/legal management and financials

Requirements

Education:

  • Undergraduate degree
  • A master's degree or MBA in Human Resources or Labor Relations (Preferred)

Experience:

  • 10-15 years of experience in Human Resources
  • Minimum four (4) years HR leadership experience, including support of senior leadership at a business and/or functional level
  • 5 plus years in senior functional leadership role supporting Manufacturing, with demonstrated success managing, staffing and driving productive engagement with hourly product staff. Successfully managed hourly turnover and improve the effectiveness of front-line supervisor staff.
  • Experience leading and/or participating in a significant change initiative
  • Experience supporting multiple locations
  • International employment agreements
  • Working with legal on legal entity compliance
  • Labor Relations/Union experience
  • HR COE experience (Compensation, Benefits, Staffing, Organizational Development) (Preferred)
