What you will do:

You will be responsible for the local delivery and execution of core HR services to employees and managers in accordance with Johnson Controls Manufacturing System (JCMS) principles, corporate policies and procedures, and plant operations with an emphasis on benefits, performance review, and training. You will also perform a variety of employment-related functions for the ultimate purpose of enhancing employee engagement, safety and health, productivity and ensuring employee compliance with the company policies of our manufacturing facility in San Antonio, Texas.

How you will do it:

  • Establish self as 'go to' HR person for managers and employees at assigned plant locations.
  • Develop effective working relationships through on-site presence with local management and employees in order to influence and coach them on effective employment practices.
  • Work in partnership with local management on various employment matters including performance management issues, employee inquiries or complaints, as well as the implementation of company-wide HR activities such as: Organizational Health Initiatives, Ethics/Integrity Training, Performance Reviews and Goal Setting process, etc.
  • Drive recruitment activities for hourly positions following established process, in accordance with Affirmative Action requirements.
  • Process employment transactions (hires, transfers, equity adjustments, promotions, etc.) and acquire employee data reflecting employment trends and progress towards key initiatives or expectations.
  • Conduct pre-hire onboarding and coordinate day one activities for new employees.
  • Conduct investigations and recommend actions to effectively resolve policy violations. Seek counsel from Legal as necessary to ensure proper risk management. Elevate matters to the Regional HR Manager or other authority as may be appropriate.
  • Stay current on state and federal employment laws and company policies. Share 'need to know' information with managers to help improve their supervisory effectiveness and to avoid problems.
  • Per the direction of the Compliance Director, prepare Affirmative Action Plans for facilities within assigned geography. Share goals and expectations of supervisors to progress towards goals.
  • Deploy training to inform or assist employees and managers on job-related activities, policies, or best practices.
  • May assist in directing the work of others including support staff.
  • Provide input and formulate process and policy improvement.
  • Implement HR programs, processes, and procedures emanating from Centers of Excellence (COEs) or other HR leadership areas.

What we look for

Required:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or related field (or equivalent work experience)
  • Minimum 5+ years of experience in HR Generalist and/or support roles for HR Generalist, with proven knowledge and work experience within employee/labor relations
  • Solid human resources generalist skills, especially in the areas of talent acquisition, performance management, employee relations and, where applicable, labor law and labor relations
  • Ability to quickly gain trust and build relationships
  • Demonstrated success at influencing and coaching employees and business leaders
  • Exceptional organizational, interpersonal, and oral/written communication skills
  • Ability to juggle multiple and competing priorities

Preferred:

  • SHRM/SPHR/PHR certification or working towards certification
