The HR Operations Specialist will be stationed at our Fortis Grand Rapids, Michigan location, supporting our businesses across the United States and will be first point of contact to our Empirical Bioscience business. Empirical Biosciences is an ISO 13485 (2016) Certified, FDA registered manufacturer specializing in enzymes, proteins, and reagents for molecular biology and life science applications. Key Responsibilities: As the HR Operations Specialist, you will be the initial point of contact for our Grand Rapids, Michigan team. Your primary responsibilities will encompass HR support, data processing, and benefits administration.

  • Serve as the first point of contact for onsite employees in Grand Rapids, Michigan, with a weekly on-site presence required (a minimum of 3 days per week).
  • Support Fortis US sites with the recruitment process by posting job openings, scheduling interviews, and initiating onboarding in the HRIS system.
  • Ensure HRIS data entry and integrity for all Fortis locations, conducting initial data assessments and partnering with HR site leaders to update data as needed.
  • Maintain and update digital employee records with precision while safeguarding confidentiality.
  • Address employee inquiries related to benefits, personal change requests, payroll, and more.
  • Collaborate with benefits providers to administer services to Fortis employees.
  • Prepare and maintain HR reports and metrics.
  • Coordinate employee HR training.
  • Collaborate with payroll administrators to ensure accurate and timely processing.
  • Create training manuals and reference guides for HR, leaders, and employees, such as self-service materials during benefit open enrollment and onboarding reference guides for new hires.
  • Manage local government reporting (MI) and aid HR team members in meeting similar requirements for other Fortis locations.
  • Support HR team projects as required, with a focus on personal career development.

Education & Experience:

  • BA/BS degree is required.
  • 3-5 years of human resources experience.
  • Experience in the life sciences industry is preferred.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Applications, particularly Excel and Word.
  • HRIS system experience, with a preference for ADP Workforce Now.
