Centria Healthcare Autism Services is the largest provider of Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) for children with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) across the state of Michigan, with services in other states.
Position SummaryThe Human Resources Specialist performs a wide variety of often administrative and sensitive/confidential employee risk management and HRIS functions to ensure compliance with Workers Compensation, Unemployment Administration and Internal company policy and process with regard to appropriate offboarding or team members. This position is responsible for owning the workers compensation ongoing claim management function while realizing opportunities to reduce future injuries/risks and partnership with our vendors and claims adjusters to ensure claims are kept at a low volume and cost. Additionally, in work strategically on owning the unemployment administration function, this role is responsible for responding to all claims in a timely manner, ensuring the business risk is mitigated through solid, upfront documentation, and presenting on unemployment calls to ensure the company is favorably winning 98% or more of the disputable claims received that are scheduled for hearing.

1. Offboarding Management |
· Validate all requests for offboarding that come through the HRIS to ensure that elements required for internal compliance and strategic uses for unemployment are captured according to process · Partner with other support teams involved in the offboarding process to work on enhancements to ensure flawless execution on time, every time (i.e. fleet and vehicle recoupment, access shut-off, recovering of company-owned equipment and other client-related materials) · Partners with the operations team and employees relations teams on opportunities for improvement with regard to documentation, timeliness of submission, and any other relevant facts that help to strengthen the facts on file for offboarding as well as the approach to mitigate risk · Evaluate and enhance the HRIS offboarding process to mitigate risk while ensuring compliance |
2. Unemployment Administration |
· Promptly responds to all requests relating to unemployment and represents company at unemployment hearings. · Ensures company has a strong business case for the claims we are contesting · Manage Unemployment Claims process in collaboration with vendor · Prepare timely and accurate analytical reports on unemployment issues and trends |
3. Workers Compensation and Risk Management |
· Maintains individuals Workers’ Compensation files and record within the help desk and shared drives · Responsible for in-time logging on OSHA and other recordable workers compensation logs and preparing and posting the annual OSHA 300A form at all physical locations · Corresponds with employee and insurance carrier for validation and procurement of required information for accuracy on claims · Works with the Benefits/LOA point person to concurrently file FMLA for lost time injuries, where applicable · Track all approved time off due to job-related injury to verify Workers Compensation pay · Looks for ways to reduce injuries and improve light duty options for our field-based team members · Attends Workers’ Compensation quarterly reviews 4. HR Compliance and Administration Tasks |
· Complete I-9 forms for Corporate New Hires · Assist with HR mail distribution and faxing · Pulling in data, as needed, for HR Compliance/Employment related matters in support of the HR Ops Leader and Employee Relations and HR Compliance Lead · Other administrative and HR Compliance tasks as assigned |

Education- Bachelor's Degree or equivalent combination of education and experience required
- PHR or SPHR highly preferred
- Minimum of two (2) years of Human Resources experience with Unemployment Administration, Offboarding and Workers Compensation experience required
- Knowledge of federal and state employment and unemployment as well as workers compensation laws and requirements is required, required
- Project Management experience, highly preferred
- Proficiency in computer skills
- Proficiency using laptop/desktop PC
- Proficiency in Microsoft Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
- Proficiency in G Suite (Gmail, Drive, Docs, Sheets, Google Meet)
- HRIS platform experience

Working Conditions
Centria's office hours are Monday through Friday from 8:30 AM – 6:00 PM
- Additional time may be required to complete the above work or meet company objectives.
Physical Demands
While performing the duties of this job, physical requirements such as bending, reaching, lifting, pushing, or pulling up to 30 pounds may be required. This role will require sitting most of the day as well as walking and standing periodically. This role may require close visual acuity on computer screens or monitors and the ability to analyze data and figures on a screen.
