Your role as Hydrogen Lead is to collaborate with a global team of technical advisors and engineers to provide innovative process designs and clean energy hydrogen solutions to assist clients navigate the path towards a more sustainable energy landscape. Reporting to the Director of Process Engineering and Technology Readiness, this role supports Future Energy projects ranging from greenfield developments to brownfield renovations for clients in Upstream, Midstream, Downstream and Petrochemicals.
Candidate must have valid employment authorization in the U.S. and must not require visa sponsorship now or in the future.
This position will be on a hybrid remote work schedule, working three days in the office and two days from home, and is based in our Energy Services organization in Houston, Texas.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Engage in hydrogen projects and the evaluation of energy transition development opportunities involving electrolyzers/electrolysis. Serve as a senior technical specialist (hydrogen) responsible for the efficient design and technical implementation of projects within Future Energy. Lead effective technical presentations and discussions with clients and internal project teams.
Be a focal point for the types of hydrogen production methods, system technical specifications and design parameters, and scale up methodologies to meet client capacity requirements. Work in a team environment to implement new decarbonization ideas and technologies into renewable energy facility and operation designs.
Acts as a consultant to GHD clients on matters related to the hydrogen value chain, green hydrogen production systems, blue hydrogen concepts, hydrogen compression, hydrogen subsurface geological (salt cavern) storage, and hydrogen purification for technical evaluations in the feasibility/pre-FEED and FEED stages of project development.
Participate in technical due diligence 'red flag' reviews and prepare technical opinions on the viability of emerging process technologies including assessment of technical readiness level and probability of success.
Participate in the development of proposals, including technical aspects, and contribute to bid reviews, bid clarification meetings/conference calls. Support the internal RFP response process typically associated bidding on major energy projects.
Provide technical input into hydrogen engineering design studies addressing significant features of facility design; critical design considerations; expected operational limits and characteristics; and applicable risks and risk mitigation strategies.
Interface with technology providers and 3rd party entities as it relates to technology development and testing and support the screening and assessment of renewable energy technologies for deployment in existing markets and the Future Energy space.
EDUCATION and EXPERIENCE
Bachelor of Science (required) or Master of Science (preferred) in Chemical Engineering.
10+ years experience (minimum), with 7+ years of experience in Energy Industry.
PE (Professional Engineer) license preferred.
Experience working directly with green hydrogen projects and understanding of the Hydrogen value chain, electrolyzers and electrolysis.
Knowledge of Hydrogen/SynGas production processes, ammonia, renewable natural gas (RNG) production from biogas, LNG processes and biofuels/biodiesel technologies.
Working knowledge of carbon capture and geological sequestration (CCUS).
Broad experience in oilfield production processes, gas processing, refinery and petrochemical processes
KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS
Strong knowledge and command of process engineering principles and practices, material specifications for piping and equipment in hydrogen service, best design practices and industry codes and standards for hydrogen systems.
Knowledge of hydrogen process safety considerations and impacts on hydrogen pipeline system and equipment designs.
Proficiency in the review and checking of chemical process simulation models, heat and material balances, process drawings and diagrams, equipment specifications and sizing calculations, hydraulic calculations and related process design deliverables generated by others.
Ability to prepare highly technical reports and make presentations to clients and internal project teams.
Experience in working in multidisciplinary project teams and dealing with external stakeholders (e.g., technology providers, clients, etc.).
Comfortable working in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
