Job Description

The Opportunity

Are you an aspiring biologist eager to immerse yourself in the dynamic realm of drug discovery and engage in hands-on experiments aimed at addressing some of the most pressing diseases of our time? Maze Therapeutics extends an invitation for you to join our internship program, venturing a 9-week journey where you'll be instrumental in implementing biomarker assays to assess the safety and physiological effectiveness of small molecule compounds.

At Maze Therapeutics, we believe in the power of innovation to shape the future of healthcare. As a cutting-edge biotechnology company dedicated to unraveling the complexities of human biology, we're on a mission to redefine the possibilities of therapeutic discovery. Our commitment to advancing medical science is matched only by our passion for nurturing the next generation of scientific leaders.

As a summer intern at Maze Therapeutics, you won't just be an observer—you'll be an active participant in groundbreaking research and development. Our internship program is designed to provide hands-on experience, mentorship, and a dynamic learning environment where your ideas can flourish. Join us in our quest to transform the landscape of healthcare through innovation and exploration.

About the Internship

As an intern, you will be focused on assessing the safety and physiological efficacy of small molecule compounds in intricate living organisms through biomarker assays. You’ll actively participate in the validation of novel drug targets for prevalent genetic-based diseases.  This will involve developing tissue-based assays, meticulously documenting crucial findings, and conducting thorough assessments of preclinical disease models.

Your Role Includes:

  • Evaluating the safety and efficacy of small molecule compounds in preclinical disease models (rodent) to support Maze’s drug discovery and development programs, with a focus on developing histological and immunofluorescence assays
  • Collaborating closely with in vivo pharmacology team members to conduct laboratory experiments, from disease biomarker assays to assisting in animal work
  • Documenting experimental designs, observations, and results in electronic lab notebooks and databases
  • Reporting, summarizing, and presenting your experimental findings to your colleagues in group and department research meetings

Qualifications:

We're seeking a rising junior enrolled in or recent graduate from a 4-year college or university, with a major or strong interest in biology, physiology, or related life science fields. If you possess a passion for hands-on experimental work and data analysis, coupled with a natural curiosity and willingness to learn, we encourage you to apply.  We value individuals who aren’t afraid to ask questions, seeking to understand both the technical intricacies and the broader implications of their work.

  • Completed or currently enrolled in at least one semester of college-level biology and/or physiology coursework with a laboratory component
  • Self-motivated team player with excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Desired skills and knowledge include pipetting, lab documentation, familiarity with the experimental method, eagerness to learn, and curiosity
  • In office presence five days per week

Important Note: In this role you will be working with animals (rodents), blood, and tissue. Please only apply if you are willing to work with these.

The internship is scheduled to commence on June 17, 2024, and will conclude on August 16, 2024 (with potential flexibility in dates).

The expected hourly rate for this role is as follows:

Undergraduate: $27.50/hour

Graduate: $35.00/hour
