About The Role
GILLIG is seeking a highly motivated and qualified Industrial Engineer to drive continuous improvement initiatives in Manufacturing, Quality Assurance, and Supply Chain through the identification and implementation of both equipment and process advancements. The Industrial Engineer will serve as an expert resource in their respective area for America’s leading transit bus manufacturer.
The Industrial Engineer reports directly to GILLIG’s Manufacturing Engineering & Maintenance Manager. As an industrial assembly operation, GILLIG depends heavily on the efforts of the Industrial Engineering team to ensure a safe, regulatory compliant, and efficient work environment. You will be expected to be very hands on and autonomously perform your strategic work tasks. You must have previous technical background in industrial manufacturing operations, be passionate about the position and the products we produce as well as be highly motivated, analytical with strong problem-solving skills and the ability to multi-task.
The Day to Day
• Evaluates manufacturing equipment and recommends areas of improvement and automation
• Serves as the project lead for the design of new fixtures and equipment. Works together with the GILLIG’s internal fabrication team
• Identifies suppliers, obtains quotes, and works together with hired contractors for any outsourced fixtures and process equipment
• Performs time studies and creates value stream maps for various Manufacturing, Quality Assurance, and Supply Chain processes
• Works with department Supervisors as well as Manufacturing Management to develop and implement comprehensive 5S plans for areas within the production facility
• Assists in the identification, development and implementation of any new Gillig manufacturing or QA related systems
• Generates, maintains, and archives facility drawings used for variety of internal purposes
• Manages and prepares reports for multiple regulatory bodies, which includes but not limited to: Bay Area Air Quality Management District, Facility Stormwater Testing (SMARTS), Facility Air, Facility Utility Self Reporting, etc…
• Assists with or performs other duties as needed

About You
• Bachelor Science Degree in an engineering field, preferably Industrial or Manufacturing
• 5 years’ experience in an Operations environment, preferably an industrial manufacturing facility in the transportation or heavy equipment market
• Proactive problem-solving skills, analytical mindset, organization skills, attention to detail and the ability to multi-task
• Ability to prepare well thought analysis and deliver presentations to peer groups and senior management on equipment and process advancements
• Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) with strong knowledge of Microsoft Excel
• Proficient use of AutoCAD or other similar drawing platforms
• Ability to interpret engineering drawings, specifications, and schematics
• Experience working with, collecting data, and submitting reports for Authorities Having Jurisdiction (AHJ) – Bay Area Air Quality District (BAAQMD), Stormwater, Permits for Municipalities, EPA, OSHA, etc…
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills
• Strong knowledge of manufacturing and supply chain processes
Preferred Qualifications
• Knowledge of lean manufacturing principles and prior experience working in a formalized continuous improvement environment
Working Conditions/Physical Requirements:
• Start time 5 am
• Occasional overtime is required as needed
• Must have ability to occasionally lift up to 25lbs and work in a standing, sitting, or walking position for prolonged periods of time
• Ability to travel up to 10%
• May be exposed to sounds, odors, and moving equipment typical of a manufacturing environment
• Working environment includes office settings, manufacturing floor, warehouse, and outdoors
Salary Range: $99,045 - $123,806
