IFC's Health and Education (H&E) program supports the World Bank Group's aim of improving access to quality affordable education. The Global H&E team is responsible for managing IFC's investment activities and supporting initiatives in private health and education. The team works with a wide range of investment products, from project and corporate finance on the debt side, to equity and quasi-equity in private and listed companies. In addition, the team supports development and deployment of relevant advisory tools (most notably in the areas of Employability, Health Quality and Digital readiness) and upstream activities.

To support the growth of this business, IFC is currently recruiting an Industry Analyst for H&E on a two-year term contract extendable to a maximum of four years. Industry Analyst will work alongside experienced Industry Specialists and investment staff in helping IFC to evaluate projects and investments and to prepare industry guidelines, knowledge management and client specific deliverables to help deliver on IFC's ambitious program and development objectives. The selected candidate will be based in Washington DC and will work under the oversight of the Global Health Services and Education Manager.

Duties and Accountabilities:

The Industry Analyst assists Industry Specialists in delivering the industry business program. This typically comprises market assessment, business development, regulatory analysis, project screening, appraisal and approval, project and portfolio monitoring during construction and operation phases, industry guidelines, knowledge management, as well as other supporting roles as needed. The Industry Analyst participates in client engagement, desktop competitive and regulatory analysis and market research, memorandum and report writing, project administration using IFC's IT tools, making and delivering presentations and carrying out other relevant analytical work. Travel will be required depending on business needs.

Detailed Tasks include:

Market making and project preparation
• Assist Industry Specialists in developing new markets and business opportunities
• Assist Industry Specialists with Regulatory and Competitor analysis
• Help Industry Specialists screen projects at early stages for financial viability, risk, and developmental impact
• Analyze operations and different business models in the relevant industry, being able to present this effectively in narrative and presentation formats
• Conduct industry, market, and company research, including the ability to present findings effectively
• Assist with strategic projects focused on developing in-depth knowledge about a topic relevant to a sector.

Processing
• Participate in all aspects of IFC's deal approval process including project identification, due diligence, appraisal, and approvals
• Assist with review of project information and technical documentation during the due diligence phase - including, amongst others, review of market projections, review of construction contract documentation, preparation of early drafts of report sections for Specialist's review, etc.
• Prepare investment-related documents for internal and external audiences

Portfolio
• Assist with proactive technical monitoring of project portfolio during implementation and operational phases, completion cost, on-time completion, actual productivity; review and summarize periodic project progress and operations reports; flag major issues
• Assist with benchmarking of portfolio clients with relevant competitors to provide insights for client's operational improvement

Other
• Help prepare and update sector guidelines
• Perform analytics on markets, company performance, portfolio data and storage of market and other relevant information
• Help design and maintain proper KPI database for portfolio companies and opportunities
• Help maintain and update IFC technical and market consultants' hiring capability
• Work on development and update of lessons learnt database, technical handbooks, and knowledge management materials
• Complete filing and dissemination of relevant project documentation
• Assist in research work leading to sector brand building activities (i.e. conferences, blogs, Op Eds, )
• Demonstrate business sense and responsiveness in interactions with others, form relationships with counterparts and mid-level clients and stakeholders to exchange information needed for transaction or portfolio processing.

Selection Criteria
• Undergraduate degree qualifications relevant to the IFC target industries mentioned above, preferably with at least two years relevant sector and/or consultancy experience
• Strong technical, analytical, and IT skills; good professional judgement
• Strong oral and written communication skills; fluency in English required; proficiency in additional global business languages is a plus
• Prior corporate (private sector) experience will be a plus
• Emerging market exposure preferred
• Flexibility and willingness to multi-task and provide support on multiple fronts related to sector work
• Team player with strong interpersonal skills, ability to interact effectively with clients and colleagues from various cultural backgrounds
• Ability to travel on short notice
• Ability to work in a multi-cultural setting, with the ability to understand and interact with people of different backgrounds. Flexibility and willingness to adapt to changing environments and work settings
• Interest in the World Bank Group and IFC's mission, strategy and values
• Some preference for candidates with relevant consulting experience sector and/or relevant health and education experience
