Information Technology (IT) System Administrator

Dragonfly Therapeutics is seeking a talented, diligent system administrator to maintain and administer our company's networked system of computers. This person will maintain our critical systems and assets, build solutions, implement new software and hardware, provide training, and assist in developing the overall IT strategy. The system administrator's responsibilities include troubleshooting hardware, software, and networking issues, as well as ensuring that all computing operations run with optimal performance and security.

To be successful as a system administrator, you should have an excellent ability to solve problems using your in-depth understanding of information systems and computing solutions and have attention to detail. The ideal candidate is passionate about process improvement, will be a team player, willing to handle all support requests with courtesy and professionalism.

Responsibilities:

  • System Maintenance and Administration:
    • Install, configure, and maintain operating systems, servers, and software applications
    • Monitor system performance, troubleshoot issues, and ensure system availability and reliability
    • Conduct routine maintenance tasks, such as backups, patch management, and software updates
    • Administer user accounts, access controls, and permissions in accordance with security policies
    • Implement and enforce IT policies and procedures to ensure compliance and data security
  • User Support and Troubleshooting:
    • Provide technical support and assistance to end-users, addressing hardware and software-related issues
    • Respond to help desk tickets and resolve technical problems in a timely manner
    • Assist with user onboarding and offboarding, including account setup and access management
    • Conduct user training sessions to promote IT best practices and ensure efficient system usage
  • System Upgrades and Technology Evaluation:
    • Plan and coordinate system upgrades, migrations, and deployments
    • Evaluate new technologies, hardware, and software solutions to enhance system performance and security
    • Conduct research and stay updated on industry trends and best practices in system administration
    • Make recommendations for system improvements and optimizations
  • Documentation and Reporting:
    • Create user-friendly guides, FAQs, and self-help resources to enable users to resolve simple issues independently
    • Maintain accurate and up-to-date documentation of system configurations, procedures, and troubleshooting steps
    • Generate reports on system performance, security incidents, and compliance
    • Document and communicate IT policies, standards, and guidelines to users and stakeholders
  • Collaboration and Vendor Management:
    • Collaborate with IT teams, vendors, and service providers to resolve technical issues and implement system changes
    • Manage relationships with third-party vendors, including software providers and service contractors
    • Coordinate procurement and inventory management of hardware, software, and IT equipment
  • Continuous Learning and Professional Development:
    • Stay updated on emerging technologies and industry trends through self-learning and professional development opportunities
    • Obtain relevant certifications and participate in training programs to enhance skills and knowledge
  • User Support:
    • Provide first-line technical support and assistance to end-users via phone, email, or in-person
    • Respond to help desk tickets and resolve technical issues in a timely manner
    • Assist users with hardware and software problems, troubleshooting steps, and system configurations
    • Guide users through installation, setup, and usage of software applications and IT resources
  • User Account Management:
    • Create, modify, and manage user accounts, passwords, and access permissions
    • Reset passwords and assist users with account lockouts or login issues
    • Ensure user accounts are compliant with security policies and access controls
  • Hardware and Software Support:
    • Provide technical assistance for desktops, laptops, printers, scanners, and other hardware devices
    • Install, configure, and update software applications and operating systems
    • Assist with software licensing and compliance
    • Coordinate with vendors for hardware repairs, replacements, or maintenance

Qualifications

  • Associate or bachelor’s degree in computer science, Information Technology, System Administration, or a closely related field, or equivalent experience required.
  • 3-5 years of system administration experience.
  • Familiarity with various operating systems and platforms.
  • Strong knowledge of implementing and effectively developing helpdesk and IT operations best practices, including expert knowledge of security, storage, data protection, and disaster recovery protocols.
  • Experience administering server-side technology and networked computing systems.
  • Familiarity with database operations, networks, and patch management.
  • Ability to prioritize a wide range of workloads with critical deadlines.
  • Availability outside of working hours to resolve emergency issues promptly.
  • Excellent critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
  • Patient and professional demeanor, with a can-do attitude.
  • Working knowledge of virtualization, VMWare, or equivalent.
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to explain technical concepts to inexperienced users.
