Job Description

Expert consulting resource providing technical leadership within the Systems Engineer family developing and applying technical expertise in multiple IT disciplines that support Cook Children's technical infrastructure. Mentors less-experienced staff with responsibility for their technical development. This role requires expertise in data center technologies, systems, networks, data architectures, capacity planning, performance management, disaster recovery design, planning and testing, security and configuration management. This role involves providing architecture and design level expertise in several areas. These include virtualization using the VMware suite of products, storage product such as EMC Isilon and VMAX and high level Windows server design and support skills, and private and public cloud infrastructure design. The Lead position will be assisting and interacting with many customers requiring excellent communication, customer service and problem resolution skills. The Lead position mentors infrastructure team staff with responsibility for their technical development and assists other Information Services Professionals. This role will be a primary resource to the Infrastructure Manager when planning and budgeting for new technologies. The lead position is also responsible for assisting the manager with monitoring team resource and capacity. Jobs in this family are responsible for developing, testing, maintaining, installing, and/or deploying technologies. In addition, they are responsible for the establishment, development, and promotion of standard architectures, as well as hardware and software components that are used in the data center and cloud environments. This role provides consulting services to application development teams and/or customers regarding technologies and the application of specific technology standards. The lead is also a primary resource for ticket queue management and resource assignments for projects the team is involved in. The lead will participate in collaboration and planning teams and meetings within the department.

Qualifications:

  • Position requires a Bachelor's degree and 10 years of direct experience in Information Systems.
  • Understanding complex infrastructure systems and how they function and affect other systems.
  • Ability to multi-task and monitor task completion by other task members as assigned by the infrastructure manager.
  • Able to create complex technical documentation such as diagrams, process and standards documents.
  • Ability to lead small projects.
  • On call duties including high level escalation support for more junior staff members.
  • Good cross-team collaboration and communication skills.
  • High level Windows server operating system knowledge including very technical level troubleshooting and planning skills.
  • Ability to create, understand, and follow processes to ensure successful execution of critical maintenance procedures.
  • Excellent mentoring and teaching skills for more junior level staff members.
  • Ability to effectively prioritize and execute tasks while under pressure.
  • Familiar with HIPAA and other regulations that impact hospitals and clinics

Technical Skills:

Microsoft Windows Server Operating Systems • Red Hat Linux Operating System • VMware suite of products including ESX, VSAN, VROPS, and VMware AWS cloud integration products at an architect level. • System Monitoring • Microsoft Active Directory design and architecture. • DNS/DHCP • Disaster recovery planning, testing and tools such as Zerto. • SAN and NAS storage products such as EMC Isilon and VMAX • Capacity planning and budgeting. • Data protection such as backups and data center replication. • Server hardware such as Dell Poweredge Server products • Cloud provider technologies such as Amazon AWS and Microsoft Azure. • Patching and security remediation • Problem troubleshooting and remediation. • Capacity Management • Scripting/Programming • VMware • Citrix • Windows Server Management

Licensure, Registration, and/or Certification:

Two or more of the following Information Technology certifications are required:

  • Microsoft MCSE VMware VCP
  • A-Plus Red Hat Linux
  • Amazon AWS
  • Microsoft Azure
  • Google Cloud
