Innovation Engineering Graduate Internship
Job Description
NIKE, Inc. does more than outfit the world's best athletes. It is a place to explore potential, obliterate boundaries and push out the edges of what can be. The company looks for people who can grow, think, dream and create. Its culture thrives by embracing diversity and rewarding imagination. The brand seeks achievers, leaders and visionaries. At NIKE, Inc. it's about each person bringing skills and passion to a challenging and constantly evolving game.
WHO WE ARE LOOKING FOR
We're looking for an Innovation Engineering Intern on the NXT Explore Engineering team, to help create the future of sport. This role dreams the future of sport and makes it a reality by demonstrating what is possible through engineering. This role requires an individual who has a passion and aim to unlock human potential and make sport a daily habit for all athletes*. The Innovation Engineering Intern will also possess skills in overcoming engineering challenges and/or notable examples of innovation. The Just Do It nature of the job requires a highly creative and proficient engineering student; someone who is motivated by trying new things and energized from learning through iteration.
WHAT YOU WILL WORK ON
As an Innovation Engineering Intern you will collaborate with a select group of Nike's most talented engineers to explore the limits of what is possible when engineering solutions are applied to improving athletic performance. The NXT Explore Engineering team operates within Nike's Space Kitchen, working at the furthest edge of the innovation spectrum; striving to make big leaps in what is possible. As an intern you will partner with scientists, designers, makers, and other engineers to develop concepts and build prototypes. You will learn from athlete feedback and iterate quickly through prototypes to prove the technology.
WHO YOU WILL WORK WITH
This role will collaborate with mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, software engineering, etc. as well as designers and scientists to help shape the engineering innovation portfolio. This individual will be a member of the NXT Explore Engineering team. Our teams consist of self-starters, who are comfortable in and able to build opportunity from highly ambiguous environments. They are willing to take high but informed risk. If this energizes you, this job is for you.
WHAT YOU BRING
- Pursuing BS or MS degree in electrical, mechanical, mechatronics, robotics, or biomechanical engineering (and curious about everything!) with an expected graduation of Winter 2023 or Spring 2024
- Experience writing software/firmware (Python, C/C++, or Java) and/or 3D CAD (SolidWorks, Fusion 360, or Creo) a plus.
- Works with engineers, designers, makers, and sport scientists, to realize design of mechanical and/or electro-mechanical and/or connected systems.
- Uses concept sketches, engineering designs, and other communication methods to assure clear understanding of technological opportunities.
- Possess general understanding of other engineering subject areas, including mechanical, electrical, firmware, controls, and software.
- Experience with rapid prototyping (Arduino, 3D printing, etc.). Experience participating in hackathons is a plus.
- Ability to move concepts quickly and efficiently especially by creating quick-strike prototypes
- Excellent creativity, communication, presentation, solving, time-management, and analytical skills are required.
