Your Opportunity

The Innovation Office is currently seeking an Innovative Business Opportunity (IBO) Director to join our team. The role of the IBO Director will be to oversee the IBO Program and assist the Director of Innovation in setting the strategy, tracking performance, and preparing reports for the Office of Innovation.

Your Key Responsibilities

• IBO Team Leadership
  • Lead a team of IBO Managers who will be responsible for the day-to-day oversight of a portfolio of IBO's
  • Be the lead liaison between the IBO Program and BOU/FST senior leadership
• Creation of new IBO's
  • Work with the Creativity and Ideation Director to identify funded projects that are, individually or as a bundle, good candidates for an IBO
  • Actively seek out other IBO candidates by probing internal initiatives and capabilities, external exposure (relationships, conferences, industry publications, etc.), market trends and other sources of inspiration
  • Lead Blue Ocean Strategy (BOS) sessions
  • Lead discussions with BOU leadership related to IBO candidacy and potential creation (IBO scope, revenue sharing, staff transfers/secondments, etc.)
  • Oversee the evaluation of IBO candidates and lead the C-Suite application for the creation of an IBO
  • Oversee the creation of IBO Steering Committees and participate in Steer Co. meetings for all IBO's
• Oversee the IBO Program
  • Manage the assignment of IBO Manager portfolios and leadership.
  • Review and provide comment on initial and annual update of IBO Business Plans, quarterly updates to 4-blocker diagrams for each IBO
  • Actively participate in IBO operation and M&BD as required including supporting strong internal channel partnerships
  • Set standards and review IBO Pipeline tracking dashboards
  • Oversee the preparation of annual budgets for the IBOs and assist in the preparation of quarterly forecasts
  • Review monthly financial statements, identify issues and concerns and assist the IBO Managers in resolving any financial issues to remain on budget.
  • Review and assist in preparing quarterly IBO update summaries for inclusion in board reports
  • Lead the IBO graduation process
• Innovation Office leadership
  • Participate in leadership discussions regarding the vision for/direction of the Innovation Office
  • Lead activities/presentations/workshops for Stantec BOU leaders and offices to promote innovation internally
  • Oversee the preparation of external innovation content including, but not limited to articles, press releases, videos and social media content.
  • Maintain an active social media presence promoting Stantec Innovation
  • Assist in the selection of Innovation Summit presentations and provide coaching to presenters as required
  • Support the assessment and selection of Idea Machine submissions for funding as requested
  • Assist the Innovation Director in the preparation of reports, marketing collateral and strategic plans
  • Represent Stantec Innovation at conferences and on committees
  • Collaborate regularly with Innovation Leaders (IL's) to support the sharing of ideas and initiatives between the BOUs and Innovation Office
• Be a pragmatic blue ocean thinker that helps to future proof Stantec from market changes and disruptions.
  • Must demonstrate understanding of what creates a sustainable competitive advantage.
  • Must understand non-fee for service revenue and commercialization models
  • Provide thought leadership to the Office that balances futurism with reasonable return on investment advice.

Qualifications

Education and Experience

Bachelor's degree is required.

Minimum of 15 years of design, engineering, planning, leadership, and business development experience.
