Job Description Summary:

Global Investigations is looking for a highly talented, self-motivated, technically minded, and analytical individual to join the Insider Threat Research & Management (ITRM) team. As an Insider Threat Engineer, you will be responsible for researching existing and emerging insider threat risks pertinent to the Enterprise, supporting Internal Investigations, developing and managing investigative dashboards and tools, and delivering trainings. Further, you will be responsible for designing, developing, and managing insider threat detections and triaging their output. Lastly, you will draft intelligence reports to communicate research findings, including the scope of identified risks, as well as advocating for and otherwise driving mitigation strategies.

ITRM is responsible for identifying, researching, and supporting investigations related to Internal Risk and Insider Threat at PayPal. Further, ITRM independently and in collaboration with stakeholders across the Enterprise develop and advocate for bespoke and comprehensive Internal Risk mitigation strategies, including through threat detection and prevention measures, and enhancing workforce education and awareness of Internal Risk. ITRM is part of Global Investigations and this role provides the opportunity to work alongside leaders from across the organization and the broader Enterprise, including in close partnership with GI's Internal Investigations team, as well as stakeholders such as Ethics, HR, Global Safety & Security, IT, InfoSec, Global Privacy, and others. Your work will prevent, detect, and otherwise mitigate Internal Risks across the Company.

As an Insider Threat Engineer, you will be responsible for supporting PayPal's Insider Threat program. This role plays an essential part in identifying Insider Threats and Internal Risks, and researching, advocating, and supporting the implementation of mitigation strategies. Those efforts will also include leading cross-functional efforts to explore potential risks, including from high risk and to high value assets, as well as insider threat-related awareness and testing exercises. Further, you will have a significant role in developing the Insider Threat communications program, fostering an inclusive culture where security values and practices are integrated into the fabric of PayPal's innovative business. You will help build a more resilient Company and workforce and help to protect the entire PayPal community.

Your day to day will include:

• Driving research efforts and drafting reports regarding the scope and impact of internal risks facing the company, from topics ranging from data security to social engineering to misuse of corporate devices.
• Designing and developing insider threat detections, as well as triaging output and collaborating with Internal Investigations and other stakeholders where necessary.
• Support education efforts like the Annual Compliance training and drive workforce awareness initiatives to ensure material covers critical insider threat-related topics.
• Support technical internal investigations and root cause analyses, including collaborating on the design and implementation of mitigation strategies.
• Develop investigative dashboards and processes to increase efficiency with internal investigations.

What do you need to bring:

• Extensive experience with insider threat prevention and awareness, including identifying collection requirements, administering various insider threat detection and reporting mechanisms, and identifying and assessing relevant trends.
• Effective problem-solving abilities, including through leading cross-functional teams and initiatives.
• Strong communication skills, ability to communicate complex issues clearly and concisely, including through the delivery of high-level briefings and presentations.
• Demonstrated capacity for innovation and outside-the-box thinking in the creation of new capabilities and processes that are unstructured or exploratory in nature.
• Team player, energetic personality, curious, quality minded, focused, committed, able to work efficiently in a fast paced, changing environment.
• Advanced SQL and/or Splunk knowledge and proficient in one or more major programming languages (SAS, R, Matlab, Python, Java, Perl, etc.)

Requirements:

• Practical experience in Insider Threat or a related field.
• Typically requires a minimum of 8 years of related experience with a Bachelor's degree; or 6 years and a Master's degree; or a PhD with 3 years experience; or equivalent experience. Some barriers to entry exist at this level, requiring department review
