Instructional Designer III

Job Description:

This position is responsible for designing and developing interactive online courses and other multimedia content published in the organization’s Learning Management System (Docebo LMS). The Instructional Designer (eLearning Specialist) will work collaboratively with Learning team members and Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) to coordinate curriculum innovation and develop and maintain high-quality course content in support of Vertex’s tax software products.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Work proactively with Learning team members and SMEs to develop high-quality and engaging courseware for tax/technical subject matter.

• Apply principles of instructional design and adult learning to assess training needs, devise strategies for improving training effectiveness, and design, develop and evaluate course content.

• Assist in developing and reviewing educational materials (for example, videos, quick reference guides, templates, checklists, process documents, etc.) supporting the release of new software products and services.

• Create graphical elements for use in Web-based content (for example, buttons, logos, illustrations, badges, etc.).

• Act as an instructor in support of software ILT programs.

• Effectively manage eLearning projects; stick to project schedules and communicate progress with team members throughout the development lifecycle.

• Make recommendations to the Learning team for new curriculum development and enhancements to the existing curriculum.

• Provide consultation and technical assistance to internal and external groups, as needed.

• Participate in the evaluation of training materials and training delivery.

• Stay informed of industry trends (for example: microlearning techniques and gamification).

• Act as a peer reviewer, as needed.

• Occasionally travel to participate/instruct training at client sites, regional training centers, and/or customer conferences (up to 10%).

• Participate in other projects or duties.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

• Intermediate to advanced proficiency in Articulate 360 suite.

• Intermediate to advanced proficiency in Adobe Captivate.

• Knowledge of educational models and theories, including instructional design (ADDIE, SAM/Agile) and adult learning theory.

• Proficient in design tools: Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator, and video editing software.

• Ability to design assessments to support defined learning objectives.

• Excellent communication skills: both written and verbal.

• Excellent presentation/instructor skills; this role will occasionally act as an instructor in support of Vertex’s internal and/or external classroom training programs.

• Strong project management and prioritization skills.

• Display high motivation.

• Ability to produce effective and engaging technical learning programs.

• Ability to work independently as well as in a team environment.

• Sufficient knowledge of business communication, including telephone, voicemail, and e-mail and operations of office machines, such as photocopier, scanner, and fax.

EDUCATION AND TRAINING:

• Bachelor’s Degree is required (Degree in Instructional Design/Technology, Educational Media, Training and Development).

• Six (6) plus years of experience in curriculum design and online course development in a rapid development environment.

• Experience building and maintaining courses in a Learning Management System (LMS) is preferred.

• Familiarity with HTML 5, JavaScript, CSS is preferred.

• Or equivalent combination of education and/or experience.
