Job Description
Pursuit is a social impact organization that creates economic transformation for high-need, high-potential individuals through our technical training programs. We are not just another coding boot camp. We are a mission-driven organization that goes beyond technical instruction to offer coaching, career development, and employer partnerships that help our Fellows secure high-paying software engineering jobs and thrive in their new careers.
We are One Big Team
The passionate and collaborative team at Pursuit gives its all to achieve our mission. And it’s not just staff. We work with employer partners that love hiring our Fellows because they are so well prepared, ranging from big financial firms to scrappy startups, and everything in between. We also activate and engage hundreds of volunteers that come from all areas of the tech industry. These experts and professionals help keep our curriculum fresh and our standards for achievement high by participating in our admissions process, as well as program-specific activities such as interview training, DemoDays, Hackathons, and Capstone projects.Â
Our Fellows are successful in part because of our amazing instructional staff. Key to the success of our instructors is the Instructor Manager. As the IM you will lead a group of instructors, coaching on best practices and ensuring they have the skills and tools needed to be their best.Â
As an Instructor Manager you will:Â
- Manage a group of instructors, driving the team to reach program goals
- Conduct classroom observations, performance evaluations and create professional development plans for the cohort and individual instructors to continually improve pedagogy
- Spearhead workshops and activities that respond to the needs of cohort
- Partner with the curriculum team to ensure that instructional staff have the necessary tools to deliver excellent classroom experiences, iterating on curriculum and classroom materials
- Analyze data on Fellow performance, both individual and as a class, working with a big cross functional team to forecast success metrics and drive toward intended outcomes
- Play a pivotal role in recruitment by hiring, training, and developing the careers of the current team to ensure that we will always be able to staff new classes
- Strong preference for this Instructor Manager to be our resident technical expert, ensuring we’re delivering cutting edge technical instruction and assessing tech skills properly
What you need to be considered for an Instructor Manager role:Â
- Experience as a lead instructor or as a software engineer
- Experience coaching teams or individuals, either as a formal manager or as a mentor
- Passion for teaching and mentorship
- Strong preference for experience as a software engineer, developing web applications using JavaScript and React
- Strong preference for knowledge of our tech stack: Postgres - Express - React/Redux - Node.js, aka PERN - but technical expertise in any type of software engineering will suffice
- Nice to have:Â
- Jest, Cypress, React Testing Library/Enzyme, and automation platforms such as CircleCI
Where you’ll work:Â
- Virtually—for now—from your home or our community office space in Long Island City, NYC
- Because we are One Big Team, we are having conversations on what a return to in-person work schedules would look like and are actively gathering feedback from staff and fellows to determine the best course of actionÂ
When you’ll work:Â
Pursuit has two class schedules: Monday - Friday 10:00 - 6:00pm and a nights & weekends schedule that is Monday - Wednesday 2:00 - 10:00pm, Saturday & Sunday 10:00 - 6:00.Â
- Ideally we want this person to support the Nights & Weekends instructional staff and would need some flexibility to work outside a standard schedule. We can find a varied schedule that works for everyone.
Pursuit offers:Â
- Great culture where transparency, respect, teamwork, and kindness are valued
- Competitive compensation in base, plus bonus and a full benefits package
- Unlimited PTO and an all-Pursuit week-long holiday the last week of December
Compensation:Â
$110,00 - $130,000
The range above is for the expectations as laid out in the job description, however we are often open to a wide variety of profiles, and recognize that the person we hire may be less experienced (or more senior) than this job description as posted. If that ends up being the case, the updated salary range will be communicated with you as a candidate.
Pursuit values diversity:Â
Our team has a wide range of backgrounds and experiences, and we value the richness that diversity brings to our organization. We welcome new perspectives and affirm that all employment decisions are made without regard to race, color, ancestry, religion, national origin, age, familial or marital status, sex, sexual orientation, pregnancy, gender identity or expression, disability, genetic information, veteran status, or any other classification protected by federal, state, or local law. Pursuit is an equal opportunity employer.
