Job Summary

Kairos Power is seeking a highly motivated Instrumentation and Controls Engineer for the development and implementation of control systems that support process automation and safety systems associated with the Kairos Power fuels program. In this role, you will design and deliver I&C hardware and software systems for TRISO fuel fabrication and KP-FHR fuel pebble production. This Engineer will also work directly with the process engineers to design new labs and facilities.

Responsibilities

  • Contribute to the Electrical, Control, and Instrumentation (EC&I) design, manufacture, installation, commissioning, operation, and maintenance of the fuel prototyping labs and facilities.
  • Develop EC&I Basis of Design Documents, Process and Instrumentation diagrams (P&ID’s), Electrical Diagrams, and Instrumentation, Tag, and Cable lists.
  • Coordinate with other disciplines and program leads to build on their input documents including Process Flow Diagrams, Process Control Narrative, design requirements, hazard analysis HAZOP’s, layout drawings etc.
  • Interact with vendors on the EC&I procurement and engineering design support
  • Contribute to investigation and solution implementation of technical problems, root cause analysis, corrective action reports, engineering changes on products and manufacturing processes and verification processes
  • Contribute to the EC&I design and manufacturing of tooling for automation of mechanical processes, fixtures, and equipment for the pressing of graphite compacts in the manufacturing processes
  • Ensure that the EC&I designs meets quality, safety, regulatory and availability requirements.

Qualifications

  • B.S. degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Electronic Engineering, Industrial Systems Engineering, or equivalent
  • 5+ years of experience within relevant field of industrial EC&I
  • Broad experience across plant engineering topics, including process engineering, EC&I engineering, and industrial construction (including design codes and standards)
  • Ability to read, revise and create new PLC logic, HMI and SCADA programs, plant floor networks (Ethernet/IP, DeviceNet, HART, Modbus, etc)
  • Demonstrated ability in design and development of new equipment with ability to troubleshoot and improve existing equipment and techniques
  • Experience with PLC programming with Rockwell Automation Controllers is preferred
  • Experience in CAD software design packages for P&ID and electrical drawing design is required
  • Working knowledge of industry standards and regulations (NEC, IEEE, NFPA, OSHA, etc).
  • Experience in equipment commissioning and plant optimization is preferred
  • Experience with statistical process control is a plus
  • Familiarity with nuclear safety and Items Relied on for Safety principles (IROFS) is advantageous
  • Proven team player with excellent verbal, written communication/presentation, and interpersonal skills
  • Excellent critical thinking skills
  • Creative problem-solving and troubleshooting skills
  • Strong teamwork skills, with an ability to motivate others and to lead or manage teams and projects
