Job SummaryÂ
Kairos Power is seeking a highly motivated Instrumentation and Controls Intern with experience relevant to design, implementation, and operation of control systems for our test reactor. In this role, you will help build, troubleshoot, and test components for our second iteration of the Engineering Test Unit and work various team members to provide support to aspects of measurement instrumentation and automated digital system process control.
ResponsibilitiesÂ
- Development of basic discipline system calculations and designs for electrical and controls circuits
- Participate in the process development of electrical component interconnection diagrams
- Participate in process development
- Producing basic and higher-tier drawings and documentation in accordance with established conceptual design and scope properly interpreting and applying codes and standards and customer design requirements for the preparation of electrical design documents, specifications, and system descriptions related to design tasks
- Review PLC code for improvement and HMI code for more streamlined operation
- Participate in managing and maintaining control system databases
- Participate in controller programming
- Perform other duties as assigned
QualificationsÂ
- Current student pursuing Bachelors or Masters Degree in Electrical Engineering, Nuclear Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or similar discipline
- Industry internships and/or research laboratory experience preferred
- Experience with control system software (LabVIEW, PLCs, etc.)
- Knowledge of electrical and mechanical principles
- Experience with control system analysis and design and control systems protocols is a plus
- Proven team player with excellent verbal, written communication/presentation, and interpersonal skills
- Ability to work well in an integrated collaborative team environment, including frequent interactions with cross-functional teams
- Ability to solve problems quickly and efficiently
- Prioritizes and ensures safety of oneself and others
- Ability to proactively collect, manage and transfer knowledge
Physical Conditions
- Ascending or descending ladders, stairs, scaffolding, ramps, scissor lifts, articulated boom lifts and the like
- Setting up and transferring temporary structures (e.g. scaffolding, ladders)
- Moving self in different positions to accomplish tasks in various environments
- Remaining in a stationary position, often standing, or sitting for prolonged periods
- Moving about to accomplish tasks or moving from one worksite to another
- Adjusting, moving, transporting, installing, positioning, or removing objects up to 50 pounds in all directions
- Communicating with others to exchange information
- Use hand tools
- Repetitive assembly operations of manufacturing test fixtures and test setups in collaboration with engineering and manufacturing teamsÂ
