About this Position

This Vehicle System Integration Engineer role is centered around vehicle-level feature checkout for Autonomous Driving features that vary based on project, such Adaptive Cruise Control and Lane Centering. This role also focuses on bringing Autonomous Driving sensors, ECUs and algorithms together and integrating them into a vehicle. During different phases of vehicle development this could involve system design integration for production vehicles, or mule and prototype vehicles. The successful Vehicle Sys Integration Engineer has a self-starting mentality, enjoys working hands-on on a variety of projects simultaneously and understands how to achieve a high level of "customer" satisfaction from internal and external engineering teams.

Responsibilities and Duties
  • Lead all vehicle-level system activities with a team of systems engineers on a specific OEM program, including feature definition with OEM customer, requirements definition and decomposition with algorithm, sensing and ECU systems teams, planning, managing change requests, supporting issue triage and vehicle integration teams, and results and issue reporting.
  • Write feature-level requirements into Polarion, and coordinate other teams to write lower-level requirements ensuring full-system definition and traceability
  • Collaborate closely with corresponding Test team to define test cases and ensure every requirement can be tested and traced.
  • Collaborate internally with sensor and ECU hardware teams, algorithm teams and testing teams to define Aptiv's system solutions
  • Collaborate with Prototype Vehicle Build team to ensure Aptiv instrumentation is integrated into vehicle or system benches and functioning per design
  • Work in an AGILE development framework


Need to Haves (Basic Qualifications)
  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering
  • 1+ years of vehicle-level systems experience in Autonomous Driving vehicles, or 3+ years vehicle-level systems experience in one of the following areas: Vehicle Chassis, Vehicle Communication Networks, Vehicle Homologation
  • 1+ years of vehicle-level systems requirements definition
  • Understanding of vehicle CAN bus and related tools such as Vector Canoe/Canalyzer and Canape


Nice to Haves (Preferred Qualifications)
  • Basic working-knowledge of Autonomous Driving technology
  • Comfortable leading weekly meetings with internal and external customer teams to communicate systems topics, propose solutions and describe data in technical depth.
  • Direct experience using Polarion software for requirements and test case documentation and traceability
  • Vehicle testing experience in Autonomous Vehicles, Vehicle Dynamics or Homologation.
  • Experience with NHTSA Levels 2-5 Autonomous Vehicles
  • Technical writing proficiency for vehicle integration specifications, system architecture documents, and system requirements.
  • Functional Safety experience
  • Cybersecurity experience
