Job Description

Team: Legal

This position is posted by Jobgether on behalf of a partner company. We are currently looking for an Intellectual Property Counsel in the United States.

This is a high-impact in-house legal role focused on shaping and protecting a complex, fast-evolving global intellectual property portfolio supporting advanced space-based connectivity technology. You will act as a key legal partner to engineering, R&D, marketing, and business teams, ensuring that innovation is effectively captured, protected, and leveraged to support commercial and strategic goals. The role combines hands-on IP prosecution and portfolio management with broader strategic advisory responsibilities across patents, trademarks, and trade secrets. You will also play a critical role in supporting product development, licensing, and commercialization activities in a highly technical and innovation-driven environment. Operating in a fast-paced setting, you will translate complex legal and technical matters into practical business guidance. This position requires strong cross-functional collaboration and the ability to balance legal rigor with business priorities. It is ideal for an IP attorney who enjoys building, scaling, and defending global IP strategies.

Accountabilities:

  • Develop and execute a global intellectual property strategy aligned with innovation and commercial objectives.
  • Manage patent, trademark, copyright, and trade secret portfolios across multiple jurisdictions.
  • Collaborate with engineering and R&D teams to identify, evaluate, and protect patentable inventions.
  • Oversee patent drafting, filing, prosecution, and portfolio management, including coordination with external counsel.
  • Conduct patentability, freedom-to-operate (FTO), validity, and infringement analyses to support business decisions.
  • Manage global trademark clearance, filing, maintenance, and enforcement activities.
  • Advise internal stakeholders on brand protection, trademark usage, and IP best practices.
  • Draft, review, and negotiate IP-related agreements, including licensing, NDAs, joint development agreements, and MSAs.
  • Support IP aspects of M&A transactions, including due diligence and post-deal integration.
  • Manage IP disputes, litigation strategy, oppositions, and enforcement actions in collaboration with outside counsel.
  • Respond to cease-and-desist letters and third-party IP claims.
  • Develop internal policies, training programs, and procedures to protect confidential information and trade secrets.
  • Provide strategic legal guidance across the organization on all IP-related matters.
  • Requirements:

    • Juris Doctor (J.D.) from an accredited U.S. law school and active bar membership in good standing.
    • Registration to practice before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO).
    • 5–10+ years of experience in intellectual property law, preferably including in-house experience.
    • Strong background in patent prosecution, portfolio management, and global IP strategy.
    • Experience managing trademarks, including clearance, prosecution, and enforcement.
    • Solid experience drafting and negotiating complex IP and commercial agreements.
    • Familiarity with IP litigation, disputes, or contentious proceedings is highly desirable.
    • Technical background in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Computer Science, or related field is a plus.
    • Understanding of open-source licensing and compliance considerations is an advantage.
    • Strong analytical, communication, and problem-solving skills with the ability to simplify complex legal issues for business stakeholders.
    • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.
    • Strong business acumen, ownership mindset, and high ethical standards.
    • Experience with AI tools or emerging technology-related IP issues is a plus.
    • Benefits:

      • Competitive salary range: $250,000 – $285,000 USD, depending on experience and qualifications
      • Eligibility for incentive compensation plans tied to individual and company performance
      • Comprehensive benefits package including medical, dental, vision, and 401(k) retirement plan
      • Paid time off and standard leave benefits
      • Fully remote work flexibility within the United States
      • Opportunity to work on cutting-edge space and connectivity technologies with global impact
      • Exposure to complex, high-value IP strategy and international portfolio management
      • Collaborative, innovation-driven environment with strong cross-functional engagement.
