Salary Range

$86,300 - $166,800

*Salary range is estimated, and actual salary will be determined after consideration of the selected candidate's experience and qualifications, and application of any approved geographic salary differential.

The Counterintelligence (CI) Analytics department is seeking a professional Intelligence and Counterintelligence Analyst to perform research and analyses and communicate results through a variety of disseminated written and briefing products.

The successful candidate must be a self-starter, work well alone or in small/large teams, be able to work on multiple projects concurrently, prioritize effectively to meet mission directives, successfully collaborate with other analysts, CI professionals, and investigators, as well as be curious, a critical problem solver, a continuous learner, and a champion for finding new ways of accomplishing the CI mission.
On any given day, you may be called on to:
  • Become an authority in wide-breadth technical subjects relevant to SNL/Office of Counterintelligence (OCI), as well as possess and grow OCIs expertise in critical CI geopolitical matters and S&T issue areas.
  • Strengthen internal CI methodologies used to satisfy investigatory, programmatic, corporate, and DOE/ Office of Intelligence and Counterintelligence (DOE-IN) requirements and obligations
  • Develop, improve, and implement an established lineup of internally composed CI products as well as expand CI assessment written products
  • Be responsible for supporting CI investigations
  • Conduct briefings and debriefings, many involving substantial technical detail
  • Perform research on key science and technology issues and geographic areas of the world
  • Understand and place Sandia and DOE equities into context relative to geographic and S&T areas
  • Seek to protect Sandia resources (people, information, programs, property) relative to specific geographic and S&T areas
  • Effectively partner, collaborate, and work with other CI staff to conduct joint analyses
  • Work closely with the team and senior CI members to build expertise
  • Closely partner with CI analysts and CI investigative counterparts to produce analyses and studies on a diverse and relevant set of Sandia matters
  • Interact and collaborate with lab-wide technical domain specialists to understand and focus on diverse national security issues affecting Sandia
  • Independently, or with guidance, prioritize multiple projects and produce quality analytical assessments, briefings and advantageous partnerships that meet CI objectives
  • Serve as liaison by working in partnership with staff from internal and external organizations, US federal partners, in the preparation of relevant activities, documents, and briefings in accordance with DOE/IN and Intelligence Community protocols, tradecraft, and standards
  • Expand analytic tradecraft and investigative skill sets through various educational and on-the-job opportunities
  • Use a wide variety of computer tools and data sources to conduct work and find opportunities
  • Examine automation and other augmentation technologies to increase the efficiency of our workforce and improve CI's ability to assist Sandia leadership and partners
This position may include random polygraph tests.

Qualifications We Require

  • Bachelor's degree plus at least (5) years of CI experience or equivalent combination of education and/or experience
  • Experience conducting analysis, analytic research, and preparing written reports and other communiques
  • Experience conducting research, assessment, and data compilation to perform analysis
  • Experience as a technical lead, being part of technical projects and programs for diverse US Government customer base
  • Experience and interest in identifying, realizing, and developing new project opportunities
  • Experience in being or willingness to become a Derivative Classifier
  • Ability to acquire and maintain a required US DOE Q-level security clearance and SCI clearance, which may require a polygraph test


Qualifications We Desire

  • Seven (7) or more years of relevant experience
  • Active SCI clearance
  • Familiarity with nuclear weapons technology
  • A Masters (or higher) degree in relevant technical area or field
  • Familiarity with various engineering disciplines and technical areas
  • Broad knowledge and confidence with a wide variety of technical subjects and S&T topics
  • Demonstrated oral and written communication skills
  • Demonstrated skills in planning, composing, and disseminating a range of tactical and strategic written reports
  • Demonstrated skills delivering briefings, talks, and situational reports to diverse audiences

The CI Analytics Department (0023) conducts analysis for Sandia's Office of Counterintelligence that is responsible for managing all counterintelligence-related activities at the Laboratories, both in New Mexico and California. This is done on behalf of the U.S. National Nuclear Security Administration (NNSA) and Department of Energy Office of Intelligence and Counterintelligence (DOE/IN).

Security Clearance

Position requires a Department of Energy (DOE) Q security clearance to start, or equivalent active security clearance with another U.S. government agency (e.g., DOD). Sandia is required by DOE directive to conduct a pre-employment drug test and background review that includes checks of personal references, credit, law enforcement records, and employment/education verifications.
