Interface Administrator
Job Description
Job Summary:
Interface Administrator is responsible for managing and maintaining clinical systems interfaces and connections at West Cancer Center. Works closely with the EMR Team, various vendors and IT teams to ensure seamless data exchange between different clinical applications. Interface Administrator provides technical support, troubleshoots, and resolves interface-related issues. Ensures data integrity and security following healthcare industry regulations and organizational policies.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Monitor, manage and maintain clinical system interfaces to ensure proper functions and accuracy.
- Collaborate with clinical subject matter experts and vendors to gather requirements and design, test, and assist the project team with implementing interfaces projects.
- Monitor interfaces and troubleshoot, diagnose, and resolve interface-related issues promptly to minimize downtime and ensure data integrity.
- Monitor IT systems interfaces and propose the best way to set up notifications to ensure that the EMR team is alerted to issues as soon as they occur. Immediately address issues when discovered and minimize downtime, critical to maintaining business operations.
- Test any changes to the system in a test environment and work collaboratively with the EMR team and vendors to ensure changes are moved to the live environment in a coordinated manner, utilizing a defined change management process.
- Maintain appropriate knowledge of all systems to understand their interface needs, including domain knowledge.
- Review vendor technical specifications of HL7 interfaces and provide recommendations on the system integration diagram and requirements.
- Coordinate with vendors and IT teams to prepare the interface testing and cut-over planning during the clinical system interface implementation, server upgrade and migration.
- Maintain documentation of system interface diagram, IP addresses and PORTs information up to date.
- Responsible for open cases with appropriate vendors for interface-related issues and keeping track of them and documenting the nature of problems and possible fixes of those issues.
- Ensure compliance with industry regulations, organizational policies, and security protocols, including HIPAA, HITECH, and other relevant regulations.
- Plays a critical role in database merge and separation projects, working closely with the vendors, project manager, and the EMR team to ensure that interfaces are appropriately managed during the merge or separation process.
- Responsible for ensuring 340B ERX data files upload to ROH on daily basis.
- Involves being responsive to requests from partnered IT teams for assistance and working collaboratively with the IT team to identify the root cause of any issues.
- Provide after-hours support for interface-related issues as needed.
- Stay updated with emerging trends, technologies, and best practices in clinical interfaces, and recommend improvements and optimizations to enhance system performance and efficiency.
Qualifications/Experience:
Required:
- Associate’s degree in Healthcare Informatics, Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field and relevant work experience required. Bachelor’s Degree in Healthcare Information Technology, or related field is preferred.
- 1-3 years of experience working with clinical interfaces in a healthcare organization or similar setting.
- Experience with EHR, LIS, RIS, and other clinical applications, and knowledge of their data mapping, build, workflows, and integration requirements.
- Strong understanding of healthcare IT standards and protocols, such as HL7, FHIR, DICOM, and other relevant healthcare interoperability standards.
- Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and troubleshooting skills, with attention to detail and accuracy.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to effectively collaborate with clinical and IT stakeholders.
- Ability to work independently, prioritize tasks, and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
Preferred:
- Knowledge of interface servers: G4 Interlink, MOSAIQ, Orchard, Flatiron, NovoPath, Powerscribe.
- Knowledge of how to troubleshoot issue on the server.
- Knowledge of SQL scripting language (T-SQL) , database , SQL server management studio , Visual studio , and SSIS (SQL server integration service) packages execution.
- Medical terminology and knowledge or clinical workflows.
Work Environment/Physical Demands/Travel:
- Typical clinical environment with moderate noise level.
- Ability to sit, stand, walk, reach, climb or balance, stoop, or crouch, use hand/wrist, talk, see, and hear for extended periods of time.
- Ability to lift up to 25 lbs.
- Some travel may be required.
