Intermediate Data Analytics Surveillance Engineer
Job Description
Department Summary:
The mission of the Border Security department is to improve our impact on government operations in the areas of border security, law enforcement, and immigration as part of the MITRE Center for Securing the Homeland (CSH). Our current work program includes support in the areas of systems engineering, program acquisition and management, sensors and surveillance, communications and networking, digital engineering, and cybersecurity.
Roles and Responsibilities:
- Contribute to the development of systems engineering models, tools, and deliverables that enable our government sponsors to make more informed program decisions when acquiring surveillance systems
- Know when to apply various enrichment techniques (including taxonomies, dictionaries, models, entity extraction, data mining, etc.) for greatest sponsor acquisition impact
- Evaluate sensor technologies, model their performance and behavior in varying environmental conditions, identify technical and operational gaps, and propose solutions for transition to the field
- Develop, propose, and implement sensor metadata capture, modeling, and standardization strategies, using deployed and planned sensor architectures, to enable more efficient multi-sensor intelligence data products
- Utilize data analytics, machine learning (ML), and inferential statistical techniques and tools to identify objects and patterns of interest and anomalies in surveillance sensor data
- Maintain knowledge of Artificial Intelligence/ML capabilities and advancements in industry and academia through a commitment of continuous learning and active engagement
- "Hands on" expectations: support modeling & simulation, rapid lab prototyping, technical benchmarking, and field testing of Homeland Security surveillance systems and applications
Minimum Qualifications:
- Typically requires a Bachelor's degree and a minimum of 2 years of related experience; or an advanced degree with relevant experience who can immediately contribute at this job step; or equivalent combination of related education and work experience.
- Experience with C++, Python, MATLAB, and/or other modeling and analysis tools
- Must possess an active Top Secret clearance
Preferred Qualifications:
- Bachelor's Degree in Engineering
- Master's degree in Computer Science, Artificial Intelligence, Electrical Engineering, Statistics, or related field
- 3 years of work experience applying advanced analytic techniques to surveillance video applications (i.e. object and anomaly detection, facial recognition, and/or video content auto-tagging)
