Intermediate Geospatial Engineer
Job Description
Department Summary:
The Geospatial and Analytic Solutions Department (L174) combines interdisciplinary capabilities across the areas of geography, analytics, remote sensing, and cartography. Department staff apply their expertise to solve a range of challenges in defense, intelligence, homeland security, health, climate, environment. and other areas across the federal government. As a part of MITRE Labs, the Department conducts research into cutting edge capabilities, building prototype geospatial and analytic solutions for eventual transition to sponsor environments.
Roles and Responsibilities:
- Work on multi-disciplinary teams to provide geospatial expertise, as either the sole geospatial subject matter expert or part of a geospatial task team.
- Discover and leverage existing and previous MITRE work to benefit sponsors, building government and MITRE partnerships.
- Support the development and application of geospatial modeling and analytics to sponsor challenges, with a willingness to adapt and learn.
- Work with a spectrum of government sponsors to gain understanding of their challenges, evaluate possible solutions, and conduct insightful, actionable analyses.
- Stay abreast of the changing landscape, new technologies, and current trends in the geospatial industry.
- Be passionate about applying geospatial analytics to real world problems.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in a related field with 2 years of experience
- Applied experience with common GIS tools, e.g., Esri, QGIS
- Applied experience developing geospatial workflows and tools using Python, R, JavaScript or Julia
- Ability to construct spatial models from implicit and explicit data to match analytical needs.
- Ability to identify and incorporate geospatial analytics into data-driven decisions and products.
- Ability to explain technical approaches to non-technical audiences.
- Applied experience with spatial database design and management.
- Applied experience employing software development best practices.
- Applied experience in ETL of spatiotemporal datasets.
- Applied experience working with remotely sensed data, such as LiDAR, Satellite/Aerial imagery, or SAR data.
- Applicants selected for this position will be subject to a government security investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Active Secret or Top Secret clearance
- Experience with geospatial data science, spatial machine learning, and GeoAI
- Experience with other software development languages, e.g., C++, Java, C#, JavaScript
- Familiarity with integrating geospatial workflows into cloud environments, e.g., AWS, Azure, GovCloud
- Familiarity with web-mapping, e.g., OpenLayers, Leaflet, Keppler, MapBox, ArcGIS JS
