We have an opportunity at our corporate offices in Chicago for a Intern on our Scientific Publication Team. In this role you will learn, review, and assist building out various project templates, and apply these templates to related projects and assignments.
The JAMA Network Summer Medical School intern will supportseveral key initiatives of the Editor-in-chief including, but not limited tothe program development of a special meeting focused on clinical trials, ad hocresearch on special topics such as artificial intelligence and digital health,and the development of podcast scripts for JAMA issue summaries. The intern will work closely with the Editor-in-chief,her leadership team, the multimedia and editorial teams, as well as externalconsultants who are typically leading faculty in a variety of specialtiesworldwide.
This is a temporary 25-40 hours a week position that willlast for 6-8 weeks (negotiable). The start date and anticipated end date of theposition will be determined before the start of the internship. This position is hybrid remote working with a team based inChicago. Outstanding candidates basedoutside the Chicago area who are only able to work remotely will be considered. The intern will have the following learning and developmentopportunities during the internship: Networking opportunities with the JAMA Network's vasteditorial team and its multimedia, communications, and operational teams. Mentorship with experienced editorial professionals.
Responsibilities:
JAMA Summit Program Development
- The intern will work closely with the Editor-in-chief and key editors and staff who are involved in the program development of an important meeting focused on the clinical trials enterprise.
- The intern will conduct research on clinical trial themes such as the regulatory environment and prepare summaries and insights to help the scientific meeting design program sessions and select speakers.
Ad hoc research
- The intern will support the ad hoc research needs of the Editor-in-chief.
- These research requests will range from literature reviews to landscape reviews on important topics such as digital health, pandemic preparedness, aging, etc. JAMA Issue Summary scripts
- The Intern will review weekly JAMA issue summaries and develop a short script for MD Editor hosts to use to record the 10-12 minute weekly podcast.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree required. Must be enrolled in an accredited Medical School program.
- Strong applicants who meet other qualifications and enrolled in a full-time health-related graduate program may also be considered.
- Must be well organized with strong time management skills.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Experience in technical or scientific writing preferred.
- Experience with multimedia, podcast and/or video is preferred.
- Ability to work independently yet be responsive to requests, knows and completes responsibilities in assigned timelines, asks for clarifications when needed.
- A self-starter who can learn new skills and apply them quickly on an ongoing basis required.
- Careful attention to editorial detail and ability to accurately perform quality review required.
- Able to work collaboratively or independently with minimal supervision with the ability to manage and coordinate multiple projects required.
