We have an opportunity at our corporate offices in Chicago for a Intern on our ScientificPublishing team. In this role you will learn, review, and assist building out various project templates, and apply these templates to related projects and assignments.

The JAMA Network Summer College intern will support several key initiatives of the JAMA Network Multimedia Team. The intern will work closely with the JAMA Network Digital Media Manager and will also support the Editor in Chief with special research projects. This is a temporary 25-40 hours a week position that will last for 6-8 weeks (negotiable). The start date and anticipated end date of the position will be determined before the start of the internship.

This position is hybrid remote working with a team based in Chicago. Outstanding candidates based outside the Chicago area who are only able to work remotely will be considered. The intern will have the following learning and development opportunities during the internship: Hands on experience with the multimedia production process from concept to published podcast/video. The Intern will also get an inside look into the editorial process for one of the world's leading medical journals. Mentorship with experienced multimedia and editorial professionals.

Responsibilities:

  • Observe the typical day of the video team at the Journal of the American Medical Association (JAMA)
  • Learn how a peer-reviewed medical journal approaches multimedia production
  • Conduct background research on medical and scientific topics, authoring reports that detail search trends, recent publications, existing multimedia, and subject matter experts
  • Follow existing guidance to remove inappropriate comments on back catalog of YouTube videos
  • Listen through back catalog of podcasts and videos to identify segments that would be suitable for deriving social video shorts; create accurate transcripts and set up segments in Descript
  • Conduct visuals research for video projects as needed
  • Act as production assistant (PA) on video shoots as needed
  • Write chapter titles for longer videos
  • Review video rough edits and provide feedback as needed
