What you'll do:

The Intern, ChemBio supports Plant Biology projects to enable screening of new molecules that modulate soil beneficial microbes and/or regulate plant growth and/or nutrient utilization. Duties include seeding, fertilizing, spraying of new molecules, collection of phenotypic/morphological data, harvesting, maintenance and care of greenhouse and laboratory plants. In this role, the Intern, ChemBio gains experience in high throughput in-planta screening of new plant growth promoting molecules.Β 

We’re moving into a new facility in the second quarter of 2023 which means there isΒ  also an opportunity to participate in the set-up of the laboratory plant growth rooms.Β 

This position reports to a Research Scientist on the ChemBio team. This role is based on-site, working in both our Emeryville, California laboratory and our Albany, California greenhouse space.


Responsibilities:

  • Plant care and maintenance in greenhouse and controlled environment
  • Collection of plant phenotypic data by employing spectrophotometric sensors, imaging and other automated technologies
  • Data analysis and presentation

Targeted Skills/Experience:

  • Undergraduate student with interest in Horticulture, Agronomy, Plant Biology
  • Knowledge of or experience in a greenhouse and/or controlled environment and with the general care and maintenance of plants or experience working in plant nursery/commercial garden
  • Good team player with good communication skills
  • Self-motivated with demonstrated initiative
  • High attention to detail, problem-solving skills and agility with changing priorities
