The State Journal-Register/University of Illinois- Springfield public affairs reporting intern works alongside our statehouse reporter during the Illinois General Assembly session from January through early June to cover breaking news, develop enterprise, and assist with election coverage. While this is a learning opportunity, the intern will need to have entry-level reporting and writing skills.

All SJ-R reporters also are expected to produce and post stories, photos and video quickly and accurately across platforms: mobile, desktop and social media.

Internship candidates must be enrolled in the University of Illinois- Springfield Public Affairs

Reporting program. In addition, candidates must:• Pay attention to detail.• Have strong organizational skills.• Have the ability to multitask.• Valid driver's license, reliable transportation, and the minimum liability insurance required by state law.
