The Manufacturing Technical Writer group, part of Manufacturing Operations - Diagnostics, is responsible for authoring Hologic's diagnostic product Safety Data Sheets (SDS). The governing regulations for SDSs vary from country to country and are constantly evolving. As such, the need for a hazardous communications review has become critical. The summer intern would be a member of a cross-function group, which includes EH&S, IS, and the Mfg Tech Writer group, for evaluating Pictograms, Hazard codes and Precautionary codes generated by the WERCS, the in-house SDS authoring software.
This intern will gain functional knowledge on the WERCS software, and understanding the relational database the WERCS uses to compute hazards (which are based upon the reagent chemical formulation). They will use the GHS Purple book, which chronicles the REACH regulations, and other regulatory bodies as appropriate. The intern would be responsible for reviewing Hologic Diagnostic SDSs for hazardous communication.
We're looking for bright, inquisitive problem solvers who strive to make a difference. Key qualifications include the following:
- Be enrolled in a bachelor's degree program and have at least one semester left after internship
- Rising Junior or Senior
- Majoring in:Public Health, Toxicology, Chemistry
- Have a 3.2/4.0 GPA
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Exposure to using the WERCS software is preferred, but not required.
- Ability to work onsite in San Diego, CA
