Intern - Laboratory Technician, Bio-Energy

Overview:

Locus is looking for some Laboratory Technician Interns to join our team this summer! As Locus grows overall, we hope to find students that want to grow and learn with us! This opportunity will help educate those interested in oilfield chemistry on testing methodology, product development and data analysis & interpretation. It will also introduce students to the fundamentals of oilfield chemistry and to the fast pace of the oil industry.

Key Responsibilities & Tasks: 

• Paid opportunity at $20.00/hr
• Length: 12-16 weeks
• Dates: May through August
  • Start no later than June 5, 2023 and end no later than September 1, 2023
• Reports to: VP of Technology, Locus Bio-Energy
• Projects will focus on:
  • Building a standard dataset for several product lines
  • Utilizing various testing methods and several test matrices
  • Interns may have the opportunity to work directly with the team on customer projects.
• Conduct analyses of raw material and finished product samples using tensiometers, densitometers, pH meters and viscometers.
• Perform standard oilfield chemicals laboratory performance testing.
• Adapt ASTM test methodologies for new product line development.
• Communicate results directly with the team and Vice President of Technology.
• Maintain accurate laboratory records and other documentation as required.
• Maintain a clean and safe laboratory working environment including organization of materials.
• Utilize good laboratory practices and perform lab procedures in accordance with the SOPs.

Required Qualifications & Skills: 

• Current or recent enrollment in undergraduate or graduate degree program in Chemistry, Biotechnology, Chemical Engineering, Petroleum Engineering or related discipline.
  • Undergraduate: minimum 3rd year
  • Graduate: any year
• 1 year of academic or industry lab experience
