Overall Purpose

The Network Engineering Intern will maintain the hardware and software necessary for a hardened computer network, and participate in technical analysis with a specialty in Local Area Networks (LANs) or Wide Area Networks (WANs) with a focus on performance, maintenance, problem resolution and routine hardware configuration. This position typically will be for a 12-week period and will work under the direct supervision of a department manager or designee.

Essential Functions

  • Configure, test, and maintain LAN/WAN equipment and related services for Web support
  • Identify, diagnose, and resolve network problems
  • Create and maintain comprehensive documentation for all implemented networks
  • Maintain and support company's LAN/WAN environment and Web Hosting Services
  • Perform daily maintenance, problem resolution and hardware configuration
  • Perform maintenance of all Firewalls and attend Firewall Review Board meetings
  • Interact with multiple internal customers and external vendors to provide quality customer service.
  • Support the company's commitment to risk management and protecting the integrity and confidentiality of systems and data.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Currently enrolled in an accredited college program with course work related to the internship.
  • Experience implementing and administrating network devices and setting and maintaining policies and rights within a network environment
  • Working knowledge of common network monitoring and security utilities
  • Effective analytical and decision-making skills to determine solutions such as hardware vs. software, hardware vs. firmware, software vs. operating system, network vs. application/systems, and patterned vs. non-repeatable problems.
  • Ability to communicate with various levels of employees within the department and proven technical and analytical skills.
  • Proficiency with commonly used office software and personal computers may be necessary, depending on assignment.
  • Background and drug screen.
  • Must be US Citizen or US National only.

  • Additional related education and/or experience preferred

Physical Requirements

Working conditions consist of a normal office environment. Work is primarily sedentary and requires extensive use of a computer and involves sitting for periods of approximately four hours. Work may require occasional standing, walking, kneeling, and reaching. Must be able to lift 10 pounds occasionally and/or negligible amount of force frequently. Requires visual acuity and dexterity to view, prepare, and manipulate documents and office equipment including personal computers. Requires the ability to communicate with internal and/or external customers.
