What you'll do:
The intern, Process Engineer, will provide assistance to laboratory operations projects to optimize, develop, and configure processes. Duties could include: upgrading horticultural systems for a variety of plant species, collecting data to inform equipment decisions, and integrating solution tools to improve the quality of life of Sound’s Scientists, Associates, and Engineers. In this role, the Intern, Process Engineer, will gain experience collaborating with Lab Users as they learn essential skills for process engineering and data analysis.
The summer intern reports to a Process Engineer on the Foundry team. This role is based on-site, working in our Emeryville, California laboratory.
Responsibilities:
The Process Engineer Intern will be responsible for helping to upgrade research laboratory systems. This would include, but not be limited to: LIMS workflow development, horticultural operations, and solutions tools development (Excel, Python, or other coding language).
They would work with research scientists and associates to understand workflows and test out and implement improvements to the lab operation projects. They would conduct data analysis and create a presentation as part of the internship.
Targeted Skills/Experience:
- Undergraduate student with interest in Chemical Engineering, Plant Biology, or Data Science
- Knowledge or experience working with datasets and a keen eye for process improvements. Coding language is a plus.
- Good team player with good communication skills
- Self-motivated with ability to take initiative
- High attention to detail, problem-solving skills and exhibits flexibility in changing priorities
