What Your Job Will Be Like

We are seeking an Undergraduate Technical Year-Round Intern to join our dynamic team!
On any given day, you may be called on to:
Perform entry-level work within a technical science and engineering environment working in conjunction with Sandia staff on interdisciplinary projects that involve applying integrated technical judgment-which requires using critical thinking skills and the scientific method to recognize and formulate problems, to collect data through observation and experimentation, and to formulate and test hypotheses about the uses and deployment of advanced technologies in support of US nonproliferation and nuclear security goals.
The student intern will need to:

• Use advanced research methods,
• Perform critical thinking activities, and
• Synthesize and analyze complex source material.
• Other project tasks will be dependent on successful candidate qualifications and experience. Specific projects may include international nuclear safeguards projects with robotics, nuclear safety and security, and cyber security best practices in international settings.

Due to the nature of the projects, the successful candidate will need to be on-site.

Qualifications We Require

You bring the confidence and skills to be eligible for the job by meeting these minimum requirements:

• Currently attending and enrolled full time in a related accredited undergraduate program
• Minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0/4.0
• Ability to work up to 25 hours per week during the academic year, and up to 40 hours per week during the summer
• U.S. citizenship

Qualifications We Desire

• Previous experience with robotics development and experimental use
• Understanding of the mission of the International Atomic Energy Agency, particularly the safeguards and security divisions
• Interest in global affairs, preferably with a specific focus on nonproliferation issues
• Familiar with technologies used in support of international treaties and agreements
• Understanding of cybersecurity frameworks and NIST standards.
• Capability to prioritize and effectively manage multiple tasks

The mission of the Regional Security & Analysis Department is to build global capacity to prevent, counter, and reduce nuclear threats to US national security by addressing all proliferation phases from motivation and development to achievement and retirement. We focus on threat and gap analysis for regional and global issues; curriculum development, education, and capacity building for strategic trade and sanctions issues. Our approach is to partner with regional experts and organizations to create networks of nonproliferation professionals who work toward cooperative international engagement to reduce threats to national and global security.

Security Clearance
