What's in it for you?

The Hartford's Risk Engineering internship program is designed to introduce students to the field of commercial insurance. Upon completion of this program, students will:
  • Gain exposure to the commercial insurance industry, The Hartford culture, and how Risk Engineering supports business goals.
  • Understand the roles and responsibilities of a Risk Engineering field consultant at The Hartford.
  • Identify uncontrolled exposures and develop recommendations to reduce the likelihood of loss.
  • Complete a project that supports the current business needs.

This internship will be located in Hartford, CT but is open to students nationally. The Hartford will provide housing and cover any related travel costs.

Expectations:
  • Prepare for and conduct on-site and virtual risk assessment surveys with a peer mentor and/or independently.
  • Collaborate with underwriting, claims, external business partners, and risk engineering counterparts.
  • Analyze loss data to determine exposures and provide recommendations.
  • Actively participate in technical development program(s) which may be self-directed or small group.
  • Complete a project that supports the current business needs.

Qualifications:
  • Enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate program pursuing a BA/BS/MS degree with coursework focused on Occupational Safety and Health Studies, Fire Sciences, Pure Sciences, Engineering, or related subjects.
  • Graduation target date of Summer 2023, December 2023, or May 2024 carrying a GPA 3.0 or greater.
  • Ability to travel independently throughout the territory as needed and possess a valid driver's license.
  • Ability to work independently in a virtual environment.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite and open to learning new business software.
  • Highly organized and self-motivated, with the ability to multi-task.
  • Demonstrates critical thinking skills and possesses a strong desire to learn.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Compensation

The listed annualized base pay range is primarily based on analysis of similar positions in the external market. Actual base pay could vary and may be above or below the listed range based on factors including but not limited to performance, proficiency and demonstration of competencies required for the role. The base pay is just one component of The Hartford's total compensation package for employees. Other rewards may include short-term or annual bonuses, long-term incentives, and on-the-spot recognition. The annualized base pay range for this role is:
