How you'll make a difference:

The primary project to be completed by the intern will be the determination of the torsional strength of different rod materials. This will improve the long-term understanding of our product as it relates our current rod offering. In this project, he/she will do the following:

  • Determine the current state of rod testing in the mechanical test laboratory.
  • Develop an experiment to challenge the torsional strength of the spinal rods.
  • Perform a series of testing to get hands on experience.
  • Properly document performed testing.
  • Develop test fixture and process improvements to increase consistency and reliability of testing.

Your key responsibilities:

  • Review of previous research
  • Test protocol for testing
  • Initial draft of test report to document testing
  • Presentation of research to journal club
  • Final test report to document testing
  • Final CAD drawings/recommendations for improvement
  • Final BMES abstract

Who you are:

  • HS Diploma or equivalent required
  • Enrollment in Bachelor's or Master's degree program
  • Junior or Senior level standing, or graduate student with a minimum 3.0 GPA
  • Biomedical or Mechanical Engineering Major
  • CAD modeling experience
  • Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint) experience
  • Biomedical or Mechanical Engineering Major from an ABET accredited program - preferred
  • CAD modeling experience with Creo - preferred
  • Matlab experience - preferred
  • Familiarity with ASTM or ISO standards - preferred

The anticipated base hourly rate for this position is $22.00 per hour. The final pay offered to a successful candidate will be dependent on several factors that may include but are not limited to the type and years of experience within the job, the type and years of experience within the industry, education, etc.
