Internet Measurement Researcher

In August 2020, Cisco Systems completed the acquisition of ThousandEyes, which now forms the ThousandEyes Business Unit within Cisco’s Network Services Business Group, and is a foundational component of Cisco’s growing Observability business.

We are looking for an Internet Measurement Researcher to perform Internet-scale measurements and apply advanced analysis and visualization techniques to massive volumes of data collected from some of the largest enterprise and public networks in the world. You will help us analyze a wide-ranging array of network events, long-term trends, benchmark service providers, Internet-wide outages, DDoS attacks and overall network health. The analysis will be used to educate the market on what really happens on the Internet as well as to improve the inference schemes within the ThousandEyes product.

As a Researcher, you will have access to massive volumes of unmatched data collected from some of the largest enterprise and public networks in the world. You will help us analyze a wide-ranging array of network events (long-term trends, benchmark service providers, Internet-wide outages, DDoS attacks and overall network health).

As part of the Research team, you will also innovate through design and development of new algorithms to improve the inference schemes within the ThousandEyes product and will work with world class Engineering and Product teams to take your innovations from POC to production and be used by some of the largest networks in the world.

• PhD or MS in Computer Science
• Existing portfolio of network measurement projects
• Expert knowledge in Internet protocols (TCP/IP, DNS, BGP, HTTP, etc.)
• Expert in Python
• Experience with SQL and NoSQL (e.g., Mongo, Hadoop)

• Experience with networking tools (e.g., tcpdump, ping, etc.)
• Experience analyzing BGP routing streams
