Team Overview:

Baird's Corporate Accounting and Finance team provides accurate and timely financial information to aid in the management of the firm and support strategic decision-making. Finance has a track record of success with interns across their various teams, all of who have the ability to directly contribute to the success of the department. Interns apply business knowledge gained in the classroom to develop relevant professional experience while developing meaningful relationships.Learn more about the team here .

  • Financial Reporting & Regulatory - This team is critical to the continued financial success of the firm through their ability to provide accurate and timely reporting of Baird's financial results. The team ensures the firm financial results, activity, and data is recorded accurately in accordance with accounting, finance, and regulatory principles. The team is primarily responsible for managing the monthly financial close process to provide key financial information (including bank reporting, audit and tax data, etc.) to external parties and to firm senior management (internal financial reports) regarding the financial health of the firm.
  • Financial Planning & Analysis - This team monitors the financial performance of Baird's businesses, and using key metrics and operating results, provides financial analysis and advice to assist with operating and strategic decisions. In addition to current results, FP&A prepares forward looking information including the budget to illustrate future trends in the business. The team works with other Baird departments gathering information to evaluate trends and business opportunities. FP&A has extensive interaction with the Financial Reporting Team.

Internship Location, Availability, and Hours:

Located in our downtown Milwaukee office, interns must be flexible to work a minimum of 15-20 daytime hours per week during the Fall and Spring semesters and 37.5-40 daytime hours per week during breaks and summer. We are looking for students who can start as soon as October 2023 or March/April 2024. Start date is flexible.

As an Accounting Intern, you will:

  • Assist with the monthly close process which may include journal entries, variance analysis, and reconciliations
  • Compile financial information for internal and external reporting. May also assist in the budgeting process
  • Maintain and document policies and procedures
  • Perform special projects and other duties, as assigned
  • Assist with training of other interns

What we look for:

  • Pursuing a Bachelor's or Master's degree in Accounting, Finance, Economics, or a related business degree
  • Anticipated graduation date of May 2025 or later
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to work effectively as a team player
  • Ability to work independently, manage priorities and meet specific deadlines
  • Strong attention to detail, accuracy, and reliability with a drive for continuous improvement
  • Strong critical thinking and troubleshooting skills
